Looking to Come Back to the Family - 2022 Yukon XL - High Miles

Hello all! As some may remember, I was the first member of the forum to swap in a 6.6 liter L8T into a 2015 Suburban. My ownership of that vehicle was less than ideal. I will quickly map that out, as I feel it is an important backstory and may guide the topic of discussion. 2015 Suburban w/182k...

Dreaded Effing lifter tap...... - SOLVED

Since you're talking about the Mazda CX-50, I feel I should chime in. As I moved on from my Suburban, I also had the realization moment that I didn't necessarily NEED a massive 3 row vehicle. I also drive a lot, usually in the range of 15k to 20k per year taking kids to/from ball practices...

Dreaded Effing lifter tap...... - SOLVED

Good news that you got it running back smooth again for what seems like a low cost. As for me, I would ship that thing out as quickly as possible. You've got the right idea to let things marinade for a couple of days and talk it over with wife and determine best steps forward. Lets say you land...

    Engine Upgrade 2017 ppv

Do some research on the 6.6 liter L8T engine. It is (in my opinion) the absolute best replacement engine choice for the 2015+ platform. It is the epitome of plug and play. You can reuse your stock ECM, wiring harness, exhaust manifolds, front accessory drive, intake, etc. It can also be paired...

Idea On Cost To Replace 5.3 Engine? 2015 Yukon XL

For a more directly compatible engine that brings more power, and non-AFM, I strongly suggest the 6.6 liter L8T engine. It is direct injected, and is the most true "plug and play" swap in the 2015+ platforms. I have a build thread on here with extensive details on the swap into a 2015 Suburban...

    Leaving Ford Expedition Behind

I am glad to see that you're making warranty a priority. From what I have heard from my local dealer who sells Chevy and Ford at the same dealership is that the Ford Care ESP is the best manufacturer backed program on the market. This was from speaking with the service managers of both Chevy and...

Dreaded Effing lifter tap...... - SOLVED

If the cost in repairing yourself is $2400, but you can source a 6.6 L8T for just $1100 more, most definitely I would recommend the 6.6 route. Since you'd be keeping your stock transmission, no need for a custom driveshaft. It would be a VERY straight forward swap. Only added cost would be...

Coolant Temp Sensor lasts about 30 days

This will sound far fetched, but trust me before you go throwing big money and time at this. Replace the thermostat with a GM genuine part, and also the temperature sensor with a GM genuine part as well. I'd bet the house that the thermostat is the problem, but the coolant temperature sensor...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

100% agree. The engine is massive and I feel like it could easily stand more workload, especially if it would take some stress away from the transmission.

    2022 YUKON DENALI 6.2

If you're having to pay for the replacement engine, go with the 6.6 L8T engine. It is made without AFM lifters. It is essentially a stroked and stronger 6.2 but can run on 87 octane. It is the engine that GM started using in their HD trucks in 2020. It would bolt right up to what you've got...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

Good point! Thankfully I am used to driving smaller vehicles. I have had several Toyota Camrys and a Toyota Avalon in the past. They've been my favorite vehicles. I REALLY deviated from my norm with this Suburban lol! What kept me from a Rav-4 was the price to get the features on my Escape...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

I would say that's a very fair statement. I would imagine more rear gear would get it up to speed with even less effort... but as for the impact that would have on MPG... I am not too sure as I have no experience with changing rear gearing and seeing the effects.

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

On interstate and state roads 55MPH it did good. I could occasionally get it to 25-26 MPG if I ran 55MPH and REALLY focused on hypermiling. It took a lot of work. Average for 70MPH interstate travel is around 21MPG. In town is a TOTALLY different story. I was seeing around 13MPG in town...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

This may be an unpopular opinion here, but I will try to map out my feelings on this. The Suburban was fun to drive, a killer looking vehicle... however I had grown such a feeling of resentment towards the vehicle. Realizing that despite it being a unique build, at the end of the day, I had...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

SOLD! Thanks to everyone here for your awesome words of encouragement during this build. I am hopeful that I have helped open up an avenue for people with engine failures to have a viable engine replacement that corrects all the shortcomings that the 5.3 and 6.2 engines have to offer. Remember...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

UPDATE I have officially decided to sell the Suburban. I was wanting to get some meaningful opinions on a reasonable list price? My initial thought is $18,000. What do you guys think? I plan to clean it up this weekend and list it on marketplace. A few highlights below... 2015 Suburban LT...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

At full disclosure, my wife has a 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid and I have owned 2 other Toyota hybrid vehicles in the past. I love hypermiling in them. A lot of times I will use the same hypermiling techniques in the Suburban, and do not use cruise control. It is a bit of a job, but the MPG returns...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

Yes I have regularly seen 26-28 MPG on 50+ mile drives through rural 55 MPH state roads. Usually brings home 22 MPG at 70 MPH interstate travel.

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

Yes sir. I planned to make this a long process to hopefully bring in the right buyer. Having no lien on the vehicle allows me to wait this thing out without getting frustrated that I'm still making payments on it lol!

2015 Yukon Denali - Engine Failure - Sell or Fix?

After spending around 12k for an engine and transmission replacement in my 2015 Suburban last Fall... I have one word... REGRET!! It has been absolutely trouble free ever since but my goodness I am so far upside down on this thing it is absurd. Thankfully I have no lien on the vehicle, but when...

6.6 Gas L8T Engine Swap in 2015 Suburban

I am considering the thought of selling. Anybody interested in this thing? 193k miles as it sits. Daily driven. Clean, clear Kentucky title. Own one of the VERY few 6.6 swapped Suburbans! Only around 10k miles on the 6.6 L8T w/6L90 combo. This thing hauls! My mind isn't completely made up, but...
