    Best Motor Oil?

In my experience, 'Mechanic In A Can' never comes in a big enough can. joe

New to 4WD, any info and advice appreciated

My truck often sits for weeks at a time. It is always plugged in to a Battery Tender [with a "float" feature]. I've used Battery Tenders for years, for both trucks and motorcycles. Based on my experience, I swear by them. FWIW joe

Aftermarket radio no sound after battery disconnect

On mine, the installer ran a separate power wire from the new amp to the battery. The mechanic failed to reconnect it, so the head unit acted normal, but there was no sound. I'd check fuses too. joe

New to 4WD, any info and advice appreciated

I was never shy with 'auto' either, and that ol' Tahoe [2001] is still doing fine. It occurs to me that maybe the full time AWD in my '07 Escalade is basically the same set-up as 'auto'. I don't see why there'd need to be much, if any, difference. I'd be interested in knowledgeable input on...

    Issue at a gas station

cigarette lighter receptacle Hack! With Picture

I think I'd just continue to push/pull the plug in to or out from the lighter jack, as needed. I could call it a "switch". I also might not have powered a 25A circuit from a 15A circuit. You never know... joe

    Genuine Tech2 quick question

Yeah, that's it. I got the idea from a guy on a Corvette forum. LOL, I hope your foam trimming skills are better than mine. joe

Coil Replacement… They should be ashamed.

If y'all don't mind a quick tangent, but one that's still on point... I recently paid $1000, parts and labor, for a whole house surge protector to be installed. It took i5 minutes to install. I looked up the part, after the job, and it's available for $50, lists at $150 [IIRC]. I'm STILL...

    Extend range on key FOB

Even correct frequencies can be a problem, if too strong. While at ATT, we'd lose cell service when working too close to a cell tower. [I'm assuming signal strength was the issue. We never came up with another theory.] joe

Coil Replacement… They should be ashamed.

The secretary/receptionist/scheduler at my indy mechanic seems a bit confused or annoyed by the fact that I ask for all soft parts [belts, hoses, vacuum lines, etc] to be checked every six months. joe

I'm also wondering if it works any better when you're not at the house. I've been reading, for years, about the congestion with-in the designated consumer radio frequencies. So, I wonder if there's some nearby source of interference, at the house. joe

    Bad Thermostats

Just make sure not to buy one of the ones with a fuse, 2 wires, and 3 transistors. They're not very reliable, and are way too expensive. Seriously, it never occurred to me that they'd start building thermostats out of plastic. Jeez. joe

Advice on purchasing a used 2003 with 100k miles

A 2001 Tahoe has been in the family since '03; with zero issues with that same 4X4 setup. The only failures on that truck have been an oxygen sensor and a fuel pump. joe

Advice on purchasing a used 2003 with 100k miles

I'd be very careful, but it wouldn't necessarily keep me away. LOL, have you asked the classic old question- "Highway miles or city miles?" Carfax is not the magic bullet some guys think it is, but it can help. Or that bumper.com [I assume it's about the same]. Also, that price is low enough...
