Got it back after 5 years.

I was at Al Asad airbase in 04 as transit personnel. Our C-130 broke down and we got stuck there for about a week or so. Small world. Good luck with your rig.

Thoughts on 97 model year Tahoe/Silverado

You read my mind, that was the first thing that popped in my mine after reading this as well. Mine trans has 200K with zero issues and its never been touched.

    Mass Air Flow sensor

Can you have the original rebuilt? My original was metal, all the replacements (I've replaced it twice now in 15 years) are plastic. I tossed my original one and always wished I hadn't.

Got it back after 5 years.

I spent time (passing through) Kuwait once upon a time, hopefully you have an air conditioned garage space to work in. Welcome from the U.S. :waytogo:

    Rear blocks

Short answer; No. I did a t-bar crank (1.75 in) and put blocks out back (2 in). Both blocks were identical in height and lift.

    The 2 Doors are now Tweeners . . .

So many years back when I started looking for a 68-72 Blazer and inadvertely stumbled across a clean 98 2 Door, I had that thought that one day this thing would be a classic. Granted the 2 door was only 8 years old at the time, so in no way was it wasn't a classic by any means; but I remember...

Anyone repaint their own rig at home?

I would never shoot a vehicle with spray paint or any paint without a hardener. I'm always going for longevity after all but thanks anyhow.

Anyone repaint their own rig at home?

I used to paint aircraft back in the day. I painted my Willys CJ5 in my garage a few years and I'm considering doing the same to the Tahoe. The paint is beginning to lift in areas due to GM's horrible primer used in 90's. So if you've painted your own rig at home, show me what you've got . . ...

    Would you paint your dashboard?

I have done it before. Hindsight 20/20, stay away from any gloss color or else you'll be kicking yourself later.

1996 2 Door: Talk me out of it

I got mine for a song. I got it from the original owner back in 2009 with 71,000 miles fully loaded for $5,400 cash. My Tahoe is unique because it was custom ordered from GM new, and after running the serial number through the GM database there was only one ever made with its current...

How about some love for the 2 door? Post pics of your's!

    Tahoe suffered a thermal event . . .

Like I said, with a cracked block, my options were limited. A new Goodwrech Vortec 350 from jeg's with 36 month/100,000 factory warranty for $2,094 w/ free shipping isn't to horrible. Getting a new radiator and water pump as well. All in with labor I should be into it $3,500 +/- I'm having the...

    Tahoe suffered a thermal event . . .

The head gasket and head replacement I can cover with cash. If I went the $4,000 crate engine route, that would have been a different story. Luckily I have excellent credit, so if I had to go that route it'd only be at 8.9% interest. Like I said, I hate debt but it was beat into my head how...

    Tahoe suffered a thermal event . . .

Mechanic checked in and said the rest of the engine looks good. No sludge in the oil, everything looked pretty clean. I guess running full synthetic oil and changing it every 3,000 miles paid off.

    Tahoe suffered a thermal event . . .

I spoke to the boss, and she feels more comfortable replacing the head gasket because, and I quote, "If you're going to replace the engine, you might as well swap out the transmission. We don't have money for that right now. Maybe at a latter date" She makes a good point. My Tahoe even with...

    Tahoe suffered a thermal event . . .

So its been a while since I last logged in. Babies, career change, relocation have kept me pretty busy. My trusty stead has still been my daily driver and until last week its only been in the repair shop twice in 164k miles of use. All in all, my rig has been bullet proof and a very reliable...

For me they rubbed like crazy and wouldn't work. First picture is with them at stock height. Second is with a 2 inch blocks and a 1.75 inch t-bar crank. You judge for yourself. Just keep in mind, each one of these trucks came off the production line at slightly different heights, so no one...
