Thanks! This is definitely interesting!
The fact that this all started when I had the distributor assembly replaced though does have me thinking maybe I should just go ahead and replace the cap and rotor with actual ac delco whatever the shop that did it put on.
I had a wire brush that wouldn't really get in there very well. Hit both of them with deoxit and it didn't help, even though they looked pretty clean after I hit them. In the grand scheme of things, I'm not too torn up about it but I will probably revisit it when it gets warm again.
Replaced the parking lamp lens and bulbs (after 25 years, they needed it!!) and while I was at it, did the side marker bulbs, since they never come on. Now, either I got two bad side marker bulbs or I can't figure out what is supposed to make them turn on. The fuses say they are on circuit #9...
FWIW, the actual part number is 11609539 for this truck. I wanted two and could have bought them from a local dealer for $6.62 each but instead bought them from Rockauto for $3.53 each plus $3 or $4 for shipping. Also bought both new rear lenses while I was at it. Swapped the original board into...
The coil and icm are ac Delco - as close to "gm" as I could get. Fuel pressure was good. I went through the p1351 guide and I think the only thing I left unchecked was the VCM or wiring to same. Also haven't looked at fuse relay panel. The weirdest thing to me about this whole thing is the...
Fuel pump is only about 5 years old. Haven't looked at the grounds or the oil pressure switch. I was thinking it's probably not the oil pressure switch since I can start it without the fuel pump relay in - is that a valid thought?
Brief, still head-scratching, update...
I replaced the fuse for the fuel pump relay circuit and that seems to have reduced the amount of times the issue occurs. I also have adopted a policy of putting the key to the on position then waiting a second for the fuel pump to energize, and then...
So my daughter was in a hurry because she was going to be late to work and backed into our garbage bin. Passenger side tail light comes loose and she doesn't even realize until after she gets to work. It's secured with duct tape for now but one of the screws that mounts the whole assembly to the...
Additional dumb question for anyone who has done this...Is there a point of getting different colored LEDs for any of the indicator lights? Isn't there just a colored lens in front of those anyway? So if I put a green light behind service engine soon, it's still gonna pretty much be red isn't it?
Just for reference, since I haven't got around to doing this yet, I found a post on the GMT400 site that lists the bulb sizes. According to that post the sizes are below. Also, there is a slight difference in the 161 and 194 (194 are brighter) but some use them interchangeably.
Large black...
Didn't check codes today, but it threw the P1351 again yesterday. Had to cut short my testing as my daughter drove it to work.
I don't know how (or have equipment?) to do the coolant temperature reading, unless you can do that with scan software (I have DashCommand)
The distributor cap sounds...
So...interesting things I did this morning...Yesterday after picking up the truck from a wheel alignment, the starting issue with it's intermittent behavior is back. :(
First, I made the handy little cheat sheet below and grabbed my test light and went out to the truck. With the ignition off...
I have a dumb question about how this all works...
There's an oil pressure switch that will also send power to the fuel pump that is in parallel with the relay. So that begs two questions:
1) Is the fuel pump relay energized the entire time the engine is running or only during startup?
2) If...
The lights that avoid tickets (like headlights, brakes, and turn signals) at least work...but I have a number of bulbs that are out (need to take full stock) both inside and out, including in the instrument cluster. I'd kinda like to upgrade the instrument cluster lights to led (I'm aware of the...
Okey doke! I have received an immense amount of help on this forum so I wanted to give back. There are 2 volumes but I have 3 files - one for each volume and a combined one. They are searchable and the bookmarks and table of contents links all work. However, they are very big - each volume is...
Reading through the service manual and after talking to the mechanic who found that the relay switch worked, I think I'm coming to a better understanding...maybe? :) He said the P1351 was a result of the long cranking that would take place (which jibes with what I saw). Reading the service...
I never messed with the ECM plugs because I honestly didn't want to poke that turd, so to speak. I'd be willing to bet there's an issue in the fuse block itself based on the behavior. I mean it went like this:
Before, w 5-pin relay - intermittent, but regular occurrence of hard start, which...
Resurrecting this thread for an update...it appears as if this was actually due to an issue with the fuel pump relay, surprisingly. It's all in this thread but the reader's digest version is that the 5 pin relay you use for the fuel pump doesn't function properly (something funky with that 5th...
