    Torque converter selection

It's important to know that the off the shelf TC's almost never run at the advertised stall speed. The reason is simple. A TC must be matched to the power curve of the engine and gear reduction of the driveline. Midwest Converter can build a converter for your exact application. Use this...

STS Rear Mount turbo on 5.7 vortec stock?

What you are asking is what color lipstick looks best on this PIG? Any kind of boost on a stock engine ends up putting you on a “Merry Go Round” that is hard to get off of. Getting the extra air pumped into the engine is the easy part. Controlling the precise amount of fuel quality and...

    Beginner welder recommendations?

If you are just starting out with welding, a "Flux Core Wire Feed" would be a inexpensive welder to begin with. They are small, do a decent job and you don't have to screw around with the gas. If all goes well and you want to expand, then you can move up to the MIG with the inert gas...

Weird vibration just started a few days ago...

Got to be drive line issues if the gas pedal can change it. Check U-joints.:party28:

    obs 1999 tahoe build

Haven’t had anything to complain about. Tahoe is running better than ever after a week long “super tune” at TPIS in Chaska. They have a dyno that bolts to the rear axles. Boss man Jim Hall found some more mid range power in the process of working on road worthiness. The low fluid light...

    obs 1999 tahoe build

The big block would be best for low end power for N/A. I would check with some of the engine builders for possible deals on exchanges. Transmission wise, the 4L80e would be trouble free compared to a "built" 4L60 When choosing the axle ratio keep in mind that the gear ratios of the trans...

    Super Tuning

This won’t mean much to most of you. Just a point of interest. Finally found the perfect tuner. Guy by the name of Jim Hall. He has a company known as TPIS in Chaska MN. They have the “Eddy current” dyno that bolts to the rear axles. They can simulate any road condition at any speed...

Nominations for May TOTM is ...Old Body Styles

Best time on the Camaro so far is 11.03 @ 130 mph. Sixty foot time was just over 2 seconds. It needs a better driver and high 10's are possible. Problem with that is, they would then want a cage instead of just the roll bars. It's a street cruiser, so I will not mess up the car trying to...

Nominations for May TOTM is ...Old Body Styles

Last time at the strip, I forgot to program the ECM for open loop at WOT. The net result was the fuel injectors were shutting down when the wideband saw the rich mixture from the alcohol injector that comes on at 6 lbs boost. But with that, it did 12.3 @110 mph. I’m sure if I can get past...

Nominations for May TOTM is ...Old Body Styles

Thanks Adam for the Vote. I’m sorry, but I never did figure out how to move pictures around these Forums, so I did a couple of pages at Car Domain for that purpose. I don’t use it for anything except a place to hold the pictures. The link is at the bottom of the page. This 95 Tahoe is...

    do want dooo wannnt

I would be worried about how much time this truck spent towing. Those mirrors are for serious towing applications. I would also ask how many clutches and tranny's it has gone through. ;)

    Headlight fuse?

Headlights don't use a fuse. They are on a breaker that automatically resets when it cools off...............

Lets see what kind of help i get here...

Headers are notorious for not being true (flat across the exhaust ports). If you put a straight edge across the face of the exhaust ports, you would probably see where they are off. It doesn’t take much. I had the same problem. One cylinder on each of the headers kept blowing the exhaust...

    Install TURBO CHARGER

You didn’t mention what kind of money you were willing to spend? It all depends what you choose to make the mod’s. Turbochargers come in many sizes. You would need to find the exact size that would work with your displacement. The OBD-2 is not the best ECM for Forced induction. An...

    Gas choice

It depends on where you live in these here United States. Local laws govern what kind of gasoline is sold in your area. Ethanol is one of the oxygenating components, but there are others. Aside from the problems alcohol can cause, it does by itself have higher octane. It does not have...

    Gas choice

The octane rating of gasoline relates to the flash point. The higher the octane the higher the flash point. It is not a rating of “power”. High performance engines with high compression ratio’s, require high octane to be sure the fuel does not ignite from the compression, but rather waits...

Electricity is FREE or is it?

So how much horsepower is being consumed by your alternator? Most people think electricity is free. Here is a formula to allow you to figure out how much power is being sapped by your zillion amp stereo and your electric radiator fan, and don’t forget the multiple batteries……………….. How...

    speaking of efans....

Fans start at 60% speed with controller I just realized that I am feeling more air movement on my flex-a-lite fans, than some of you guys, because they come on at 100%. I was reading the instruction page again from Flex-a-lite. Bottom of page 2 “The variable speed control has new features”...

    speaking of efans....

I can’t feel any warm air in front of the grill, only feel a breeze going in, nothing coming out. You should revisit that wiring. I didn’t use any of Flex-a-lite’s wiring or controls. I did check polarity before hooking them to the relays to be sure they were pulling. I have a separate 40...

    speaking of efans....

Planning on getting to the drag strip, next Wednesday night. I expect to work on the 60' times with the new 4500 rpm TC, using 4 wheel drive. Should be interesting. :)

    speaking of efans....

Thanks, that’s a good idea. I think I will see how this new air flow works for a while before changing anything. I’m still trying to keep this tahoe looking stock. There has never been a problem if I’m moving, just sitting in gridlock seems to be a bit of a issue……..

    speaking of efans....

It's the same one everyone's been talking about, the #280. I have some extra heat generating things going on, so I can use all the air movement I can get. :)

The Shroud is important too. Do not ignore the importance of the shroud. I have recently replaced a Perma-Cool setup that had a motor fail, with a Flex-a-lite setup. I had run the Perma Cool for 3-4 years. They both have the same basic CFM specs, but I now realize that the Flex-a-lite...

    Cooling fans failed

I just ordered them from Summit. UPS ground, so it will probably be the middle of next week before I see them. I’m putting off the water pump. The only time is dribbles is when I get up around 7,000 rpm’s. The rest of the time it’s bone dry. It is such a major job to get down to the...
