Don't know anyone personally with the 383. Supposedly swap intake and accesories and good to go. 9.1:1 compression means you could put 5-7lbs of boost on later if you get bored. Looks like $4500-5000 depending on where you get it from.
Gm has a ht383e crate engine. Direct replacment for 96-99 vortec 350. 340 hp and 435 ft lbs. Would be a nice little boost over the 255 hp it came with. It also falls in your budget. Easy day swap in the driveway.
VHT will fade in the sun over time. Wife's old Impala was back to red tails in about a year and a half. Mix black with clear until you get your desired darkness. Then clear, wet sand, Polish a install.
Not to cludder your thread, but I did see retrofit makes a drop in projector for spyder and spec-d aftermarket lights. Still not cheap but another option for the un-crafty.
RR PARK, LR PARK, and a STOP LP. I had a issue where I only had parking lights in back and a intermitin 3rd. Ended up being the rr park fuse. Has been good ever since.
Crappy pic, better ones to come. The black headlights I ordered are complete garbage. Adjusters stripped trying to level the lights. Parking lights took some work as well. Flippin ebay crap. Very happy with the grille however.
Third brake light fuse I think is labeled CHMSL. Something like that, center high mount stop light. Should not need any resistors to make the lights work. I believe 3rd brake light and cruise use the same fuse.
