just curious but what diesels that are available will fit in a tahoe and are light enough
the only ones i know of are the 4bt and 6bt cummins
i know the duramax is to big and heavy for a tahoe
im assuming a powerstroke is to

scratch that i guess it is possible to put a duramax with an allison in a tahoe

Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for, do you know anyone that runs one? Wondering about mileage and longevity

Wouldn't want to run diesel, I toyed with that idea and a 6.0 cng as well (we use those at work and they work pretty well) but in the end my goal for this hoe keeps bringing me back to a gas motor between 5.3 and 6.0. That 383 sounds like just the ticket. I'm assuming I could get a 411 bb tuned for it, so the 411s just drop in once they are mapped? I've done a bit of reading on the benefits of them but not much on installation

Don't know anyone personally with the 383. Supposedly swap intake and accesories and good to go. 9.1:1 compression means you could put 5-7lbs of boost on later if you get bored. Looks like $4500-5000 depending on where you get it from.

Yeah looks like a perfect choice, probably do long tube headers and new exhaust too. On an unrelated note. I'm wanting to get a steering box this weekend, any idea if one from a 96 would work in a 99?

I'm running the HT383E in my Tahoe... nice increase in TQ and HP. Just swap over the intake manifold from your current motor to the new one.

BB tuned computer...

I replaced several things during the motor swap process in addition to the motor itself:

New custom fuel lines, O2 sensors, catalytic converters, power steering pump, gear box, and hose, plus had to have the transmission rebuilt (yet again).

Since you asked about the 96 power steering gear box on the 99 Tahoe... there's not difference. If you're looking to replace the power steering pump with the 96 version, you should be fine with that swap as well, but you'll have to replace the power steering hose with that of the 96 model year for it to work (bends are different at the pump). That's actually one of the changes that I did as well.

I may put it off until next year tbh, found some serious rust under my floor pans. I found another body (maybe havent heard back yet) no motor no trans that may work. I may run this till it pukes, rebuild my spare 700 and get the ht383. Being in oklahoma (no inspections) I was thinking or running short tube headers with a magnaflow y pipe. Any recommendations for mufflers to go with the 383?

Sound is subjective... some like it loud, some don't.
I'm personally very happy with my Magnaflow cat-back (part number in my signature link).

I don't like too loud unless I get on it. I just bought a 99 yukon body with transmission 120k for $750. Ill be saving to either build a 383, or buy the ht383e over the winter. If I had a low mileage 350 punched 30 over, cranked and cam'd it the same as the ht383 could I expect similar power from it? Found a listing for all the parts numbers etc for the new motor on another forum and it sounds like it could be way cheaper

For those running the 383 stroker. How is the rest of the drive line holding up. I've been considering this option. I replaced the tranny 2 yrs ago with a level 2 from PATC. So far so good with the stock 350. I'm worried about blowing the transmission and rear end with the increased torque of the 383 stroker. My rig is a 98 2 door with 255k on the clock. 350 is getting pretty tired... For 2k I can get a new GM 350 from Jegs. I saw a guy on ebay selling new/rebuilt strokers out of Houston for 3K. The stroker looks tempting... 4K to 5K for the new HT383 is out of my price range.
