Disassembled it and the main board looks fine. I know late 90s and early 2000’s were known to have solider failures due to switching to lead free solider. Anywho it’s not to bad to disassemble just wish I found an obvious issue or knew where to look lol
You are on to something. Installed the replacement radio which is in really nice condition but no sound. Powers on and can change stations but no chime no sound at all
I hook up original radio and stuff and works when it’s not cold out of course.
Why does it have to be so GD complicated? Thanks GM!
WatchJRGo on YouTube recommends ATTO brand. I think that works with steering wheel controls too.
But I want the GD OEM look Damnit!
That want is fading with all the complications lol
Oh hell maybe I got sound like 1 out of 3 times when trying the acc mode with spare radio. It’s been awhile. It sure looks nice in my garage lol.
Failing Radio (original) that works in summer temps
Yes the replacement radio I have does power on but no sound when in acc mode. If I turn key to on then it goes into theftlock until I pull radio fuse and go back to acc
Thanks, didn’t know about that. Apparently the interface software is free and you just have to buy the device.

I’ll probably pull the head unit one more time and look at the power supply soldier joints as now even when it’s working probably 3 of 10 days it will just loose power and then power back on while in use.
Tried the two dealers in my town and they both won’t even look at it unless minimum 1hr charge at $125 “no guarantees”
I’m familiar with the older radios pre 2002 where you press some buttons and get a code.
2003+ the button combo won’t display a code and you need a tech 2 to program in the...
42F degrees this am. No door chime. Same issue radio powers on and I can select stations but no sound until it’s on awhile then you hear a pop and audio comes out of all speakers.
Scanned for codes and cycled key a few times. No codes.
When temp doesn’t drop below 50F radio works like it...
Took the RSE Rear seat audio hvac module out and found some corrosion on the display pins. Cleaned it off and didn’t see any other damage behind display or on the other board.
Reconnected everything and will see if audio still is out next cold morning.
Also cleared all codes again.
Off topic but pretty sure the climate control module was replaced. Everything seems to work fine but it ALWAYS runs the AC compressor. Is that normal on this gen? It’ll be freezing out, I turn up the heat and you hear and feel the ac compressor cycling.
Not that I know of. Just rarely used I guess. I replaced the steering wheel radio control buttons. They were heavily used and some didn’t light up. That was a PITA with the wires being super short.
Nope. There is a box bolted to the rear passenger quarter panel with a bunch of connections, license plate lights being one of them. Not sure what the other 3 do…
I’ve checked these grounds:
Neg Battery cable to engine block
Small front bumper ground wire
Driver side engine block to firewall
2 grounds near body mount under driver seat outside of cabin.
Small ground in cabin under driver side a pillar near front of windshield
Did I miss any?

Odd that the only code when I flat out unplugged the rear audio module was u1000.
I’ve used BlueDriver Bluetooth scanner and Innova 5610 to scan U codes.
I did send my PCM off to Blackbear Performance and had them tune it and remove the security VATS system but these problems occurred before...
Update: I disconnected the rear audio module in your pic and I still get sound but only in front door speakers. Makes sense but doesn’t make sense why I get no sound at all when cold temps.
I looked at the main connector under center console and disconnecting that caused no sound at all but...
I have a 2003 suburban z71 with factory 6 disc in dash cd receiver. When it’s colder than 50 degrees the radio powers on but now sound or door chime until the cabin warms up. Summer months it works fine. Cold months nothing the you hear a pop and you get sound.
I’ve tried replacing the Bose...
I have an 03 suburban and 97 k1500 that sit days / weeks at a time.
Anyone recommend a solar battery charger? There's so many on Amazon, wondering if anyone has one they recommend.
Also thought about adding a second battery, apparently you can add a second battery without isolator if both...
Hi All,
I made some videos of my new to me 03 suburban z71 5.3L. I've done a ton of work to it (see my post in welcome new user thread). It has a 2" front torsion key lift, 1.5" rear coil spring spacer and 33" BFG K02 tires.

Hi All,
Here's a 0-60 in my Blackbear Tuned Suburban. If it seems slow, I'm at 6900' elevation which equals 21% power reduction since you loose 3% hp & tq for every 1000' elevation gain. Take a second off the time for a near sea level run.
