I don't remember seeing a sponge type filter for the rear AC when I was messing with mine last year but mine is an 02 YXLD
Also, there is a small heater core back there that might be leaking which might cause the bad smell, but I'd think you would see a bit of coolant loss.
Since you have replace all the stuff you have already mentioned except for the steering pump, I'd say that might indeed be what is acting up. Rule out your AC pump by taking off your AC belt and keeping the heater controls off while you drive, if sound is still there then you ruled out that...
Check out the thread I posted up, starting on post #21 it shows you what all I did. To answer your question, I did put the fan on a switch and I barely use the fan anymore since we sold our toyhauler! It doesn't help a ton with cooling off the fluid fast but I think it does help! At least get...
Good to know, I'll try to remember to post up on here when I do both the brake upgrade and the hydroboost together! The braking on these trucks suck so hoping for good results with both!
Here is my thread I did years ago when I added a fan to my trans cooler!

And to answer your question, my aftermarket cooler is 11" x 11" and it fits pretty good! Great investment if you plan on towing any amount of the time!
Thank you very much for this thread, the part numbers of what all is needed is most appreciated! I'm hopefully going to do the front brake '07 upgrade soon since I have all the stuff for it, then I'll do what you did!
If your denali has the original stock cooler it is tiny! One of the first things I did to my truck was get the biggest cooler they could fit behind the grill and it did wonders for my temps. I also have a fan installed on the cooler but it doesn't really help that much at all!
Seriously, you need a tune for your truck! I did Blackbear years ago and still is one of the best upgrades I've done for my truck! Did get more power but mainly the shifting was dramatically better, like how it should have came from the dealership!
I especially noticed a vast improvement when...
I'm swapping out my fronts for '07+ fronts hopefully this weekend, calipers will come with the correct brackets, need the new bigger rotors and pads and you should be good!
Also, I did purchase this from Amazon so I didn't have to chop off the factory plugs, made it super easy to install!

Nope, just use the metal rings that come with the kit. The screws like mentioned earlier in the thread really suck so might wanna come up with some of those! I had both speakers installed in about 45 minutes!
Sorry you didn't get any advise on the subject but at least you got it figured out! Sometimes that crap can be hard to solve without going drastic but at least you got is resolved!
