    2002 Tahoe Z71

I eventually lifted it another 1.5"... A few months later, those cheap Chinese hub assemblies bit me in the ass and got replaced with Timkens... The truck continued on its life and got new fuel lines, shocks, HID lights and torsion bar crossmember bushings along the way. I have literally...

    2002 Tahoe Z71

I purchased this Tahoe bone stock in March of 2014 with 191k miles on it; blown rear, no 3rd or 4th gear and rotten brake lines. It sat for a year while I did all of the brake lines, fully rebuilt the rear, had the transmission & converter rebuilt, cleaned/painted the frame, installed a 6"...

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

The LQ4 I have is from a 2500HD. Do I need to swap over the accessories (all I can tell is the alternator is a little bigger on the 6.0) and I assume the original 5.3/4L60E flexplate will work? I notice the SS 6.0/4L60E flexplate looks a bit different in design but remains curved like the...

    6.0 vs. 5.3 conversion questions

I'm actually getting ready to do this in my Tahoe. Correct me if I am wrong but the only thing you need to change to do this swap is the flexplate. You need to remove the 6.0 flexplate + spacer and install the 5.3 flexplate (I have heard talk about using the Silverado SS 6.0 flexplate) can...

    Starts but dies at idle

Does it sputter or just flat out die? A bad vacuum leak such as severely blown intake gaskets or a stuck EGR will not idle.

    PSA: Cheap Hub Assemblies

Yeah... The first thing that went through my mind was thankfully my wife wasn't driving with my son in the truck. As soon as I heard the bearing race explode, I slowed down immediately.

    PSA: Cheap Hub Assemblies

I've always used timken on all my trucks, I just didn't want to wait for them to be shipped (this was while I was installing the lift). I have the timken hub assemblies waiting installation but I'm currently working on a bobcat 743 skid steer (basic maintenance/fuel filter/oil...

    PSA: Cheap Hub Assemblies

When I restored this Tahoe, I didn't cut any corners until it came to the hub assemblies... The local shop only had the cheap Chinese brand in stock. I got about 40k miles on wheel spacers and 35" tires. Driving one day, I heard the slightest bearing squeal when turning left. I knew what it was...

    93BlkOnGreen's RC Toys

Well, after much contemplation over 4 months and a crazy winter (I am a supervisor for a local road department that got hammered by 3 bad snow storms in the past two weeks) I decided to spoil myself and bought a TMaxx 3.3... I am definitely still a nitro guy. Growing up, I had both (this was...

    Twin Turbo Kit

I think for a daily driver I would run from a Chinese turbo but it'd be fine for a toy.

    My 03 W/ RoughCountry 6inch

Smoothest riding trucks I've ever been in with a 6" lift (mine lost a tad of ride quality at 7.5" of lift when I did 1.5" spacers and indexed the keys 1.5"). Still fantastic ride quality! That offset rear axle drives me insane on my truck (and yours) but $500 in adjustable control arms is just...

    Twin Turbo Kit

You should Google those cheap Chinese turbos like the GT45 before you say that... I would think the piping would be very thin and prone to cracks.

    Expected transmission life span

I'd be a bit more optimistic than most with them... 150-200k is when just about every one dies.

92 Yukon 5.7 (New engine w/ 20000 miles): Engine Oil??

Regardless of being a diesel or gas oil, any 15w40 oil does not belong in a freshly built sbc. I always rebuild my motors on the tighter side if tolerances and generally run 5W30.

    98 Tahoe crumby fuel injection

You think a TBI unit would be an upgrade? Lateral at best... The biggest performance downfall of the L31 is the injectors impeding air flow in the manifold. BTW they make a marine intake with external injectors on rails. You'd just have to rewire the injector plug to individual ends.

Moisture out the tailpipe, sign of cracked head?

Coolant in oil? Loss of power? Bum compression? No... Don't worry.

Does the 2005 6.0 have the Oil Pressure filter?

Yes they have a "filter". It's a metal screen under the sensor. Every 5.30/6.0 I've touched has had it.

    Upgrade questions, cam etc.

Brian Tooley (the big name behind Trick Flow) is the man for any LSx related cam questions. He has a line of strictly truck camshafts although I've never ran a specific truck cam from him. He is hands down one of the most knowledgeable guys when it comes to cylinder heads and camshafts for...

    Help with lift

I think 2.5" keys will bottom out the UCAs on the bump stops and ride like complete trash.

    Deciding on 6" Lift Kit

They do space out the axles as the name implies but they are not the cause for increased wheel track width. The front differential is lowered in a 6" lift; the upper control arm remains in the factory location and the lower control arm is dropped a few inches down. The difference in height from...
