Matt00 2003 Yukon build

Just a couple months ago I got a job and I now have money to buy things for my truck! I have a 2003 GMC Yukon 4x4 with 260k on the original engine and trans. I bought her from my girlfriends aunt for 1000$ back in February. Nothing much has been done since then, other than every day driving. I’m buying with a budget here and just figured I’d kick things off with small upgrades!

I’ll have pictures up in the morning, I am in the process of re-painting the Luggage Rack and removing the Side Molding!

This morning I got up and continued to work on removing the side moldings. I’ve been using Goof Off and a Metal Putty Knife. I’ve scraped my paint a few times but mainly spots I can just buff out. The hardest part so far is removing the actual panel, and the most time consuming is waiting for the Goof Off to weaken the glue.

Passenger side is just getting started:

I have work in about 30 minutes so I’ll have to finish it up tomorrow morning, then it’s on to repainting the roof rack!

3M sells a rubber buffing wheel that removes that crap and stickers for like $20... Caveman!

Quick Update: Everything I’ve ordered has been shipped! The Corvette Servo will be here next week, and everything else will be here between December 1st-7th!

I think it's just really difficult for people with experience to follow your progress. The knowledgeable owner would skip the light bar or lights for the gauges and spend the money on a tool to perform your task properly. Otherwise you could potentialy create MUCH more work for yourself correcting mistakes that you previously made. But you keep doing you! Following!

Not gonna lie, that’s a bit harsh. Let him do it his way because it his truck. And if you don’t agree with it and don’t like it, because you say”your experience makes it hard to follow his progress” than don’t follow it. This is meant to be a friendly place. Yes there’s always better ways to do things, but there’s much better ways to verbalize them.

Welcome and fyi Those led guage lights will not work in your 03.
03-06 have to be soldered in.
Being cold out doesn't help your cause with the trim glue.
I know you're on a budget but please invest in the eraser wheel. Not only is it safer for your paint, and fingers lol, but it's waaaayyy faster. Plus you can use it over and over again on your next vehicles and friends vehicles. They last awhile. In the end you will spend more money on bottles of goof-off.

But most importantly you're on the right track getting those ugly side moldings off to begin with.
Excited to see the color changing footwell lights. Pretty cheap. I might buy a kit myself.

Not gonna lie.....I was attempting to do the complete opposite! Apparently I failed miserably!

Op....What I meant to say was do as you wish....if you seek advice, ask it. If you receive unsolicited advice or opinions that you do not agree with...ignore it. I am glad that there is a new member here and I am still a newb myself. I AM following your thread because I am excited to see what you create. Welcome (even though I don't feel qualified yet to do the welcoming!)
