Well... No life in AC anymore. Just the three blinks of the light on the AC button. Belt is still on and clutch and pulley still turn easily.
Gave up and took it to the only shop in town I trust to touch my vehicles if ever needed. Let's see what the verdict is tomorrow. Mentally already...
Yeah, it probably wouldn't be too bad. It's just I don't necessarily trust myself enough. Gotta make sure everything is really clean, all o-rings are seated properly, have right amount of oil in the compressor etc. etc. Don't want to have to do it twice...
AC and automatic transmission work are...
Guess it's time to do something about the AC compressor... Wife just reported that again no AC. Most likely the belt jumped off again.
Don't have the equipment to get vacuum pulled in the system etc., so I guess I need to take it to a shop. Already have the feeling of getting to be raped...
As well as the NNBS trucks. My Silverado only has two very minor cracks so far, though. Unlike my wife's Tahoe that has several. None of them are too big, yet...
That hard plastic GM used is just friggin' stupid.
Drove the Tahoe and it threw the AC belt. So, this in addition to the sort of whirring noise the compressor has been making for the past week, or so. Decided to replace both belts while I was in there.
After replacing them, I drove around for a bit and when I got back it looks like the AC belt...
First thing you need to check is whether you have coolant in the system or not. If not, then you need to find where it is leaking from and replace the offending item/s.
Kind of difficult to give you a definitive answer as to what happened before you do some investigation.
My wife's Tahoe did...
Wife came home and complained about a noise when hitting gas. Idles fine with no noises, but around 1500rpm, the noise starts.
Hit the AC button and voila, noise is gone. So... Either I have a $40 fix in my hands to replace the AC belt tensioner or then it's a bunch more to replace the AC...
Put a new cover on the center console lid. Looks pretty damn good, even if I say so myself. :D
Only a couple of small wrinkles which should eventually work themselves out.
Did the same on my Silverado yesterday, so I had a little practice already.
Diagnosing rattles and other sounds over the internet is always a bit crapshoot. What for somebody is a rattle might be something else to another.
What rattles? The whole truck? Just some bits and pieces here and there?
Not really sure how accurate the tach is, but 500rpm is definitely too...
Other than #8 it's all easy going. Also, once you're done, you don't have to worry about it for another 100K miles, so it's not like you need to change them twice a year, or something.
Might be a long shot, but I'll check here before I throw them in the trash.
Bought them a week ago for the front of my wife's Tahoe to carry over while waiting for the drilled/slotted rotors and ceramic pads to arrive
They were on for four days and less than 100 miles. One of the pads (bottom...
Same here. I probably should've also changed the other one that wasn't leaking, but oh well...
Once I realized what a PITA it was, I just wanted to get done with it.
One more thing for those who have to do this job at some point in the future: this GM quick connect release tool does not work on it. https://www.amazon.com/OTC-6046-Heater-Quick-Connect-Release/dp/B000F5HUTE
Changed the leaking heater hose connector. What a freaking shitshow that turned out to be... :shooter:
I'll save you the details, but after three trips to O'Reillys, two to Home Depot, a bunch of mangled fingers/knuckles, A LOT of cursing and beer it's done. So far didn't see any leaks.
These.

Slapped them all in today, and I'm glad I did, since the passenger rear was just about to hit metal on metal.
Guess it's time to get busy later today or tomorrow...
I originally thought they'd come from China, but they actually came from Canada. Only took five days.
