Going synthetic on 2004 z71 tahoe? Leaks and oil change computer

Costco is usually pretty good, not the same as Walmart. They have good buyers and look out for their clients. I have heard good things.

Going synthetic on 2004 z71 tahoe? Leaks and oil change computer

Hi. I am thinking of switching to synthetic engine oil on a 2004 z71 Tahoe with about 137,000 miles. It has been well taken care of and has no leaks at all. I picked up some Costco synthetic oil but after someone mentioned that there is a possibility that it could start leaking, have been...

Rear wiper not docking and does not work

2004 I don't force it. Just lift it up so it can hit the slope and then it springs back, but not completely into docked position. I will look for OEM wiper. thanks. That was my next guess. It is just weird that the old one... Wait. I wonder if someone did not steal my rear wiper. or switch it...

Rear wiper not docking and does not work

So a part fell off my wiper leading to the blade sliding out. So bought new one and installed it. But it works once then stops. It does not seem to dock properly. It was working fine before. Someone may have tampered with it, not sure. Looking at it closer, it seems like it does not dock...

Factory Service Manuals - Anyone have them?

I would not spend too much time looking for them. The FSM from GM are not well written and a PITA to use. I come from Toyota FSMs that are so well written they are a pleasure to read. The GM manuals are terrible, repetitive, and bounce you all over the place to different sections. I ended up...

Looking for Heavy duty winch bumpter for z71 tahoe

I have a 2004 z71 tahoe that has rusty bumpers, no surprise there. Looking to upgrade to a heavy duty winch bumper like the Iron Cross bumper with push bar. Truck is stock. https://www.carid.com/2004-chevy-tahoe-off-road-bumpers/iron-cross-hd-series-front-bumper-with-push-bar-54106240.html...

    Neutralizing road salt any suggestions

Hi had done some research a while back. In Canada, they use the oil treatment once a year at around $100 or so. I think that is the best method. I had also bought some special cleaner for the crap they use up north on the roads. Not really needed in parts of country that see occasional snow...

Problem with rear heat after replacing controller

Hey James. Glad you found it helpful. Whenever I do something complicated on the Tahoe, I post what i found, for myself as well as others. If I ever have to do it again, I will have a clear description of what I did so I don't have to bang my head against the wall a second time around. I have...

Torque Setting on Rear caliper bolts 2004 z71

Been meaning to post this... Here is spec from the manual i picked up. WAY better that FSM as it clearly indicates torque for each caliper. So 148 foot pounds it is. As far as loctite, Spoke to mechanic who recommended staying away from the yellow and red (requires torch/heat to get off)...

    Parking brake adjustment question

It is not as long as you have done some brake work before. You may need to remove rear caliper and disks/drums. If you do, i recommend lubricating shoes (or at least checking it is not bone dry). After i did the work, my parking brake sometimes sticks at the foot pedal. If i go in reverse, it...

Torque Setting on Rear caliper bolts 2004 z71

You are absolutely right. I will stick with the threadlock. I was just trying to understand why GM requires it, while other manufacturers do not... something different with GM design??? But the 'tight' answer to me is crazy. I have been wrenching for over 20 years and don't do it everyday. But...

Torque Setting on Rear caliper bolts 2004 z71

BTW, the last person to work on my truck was a so called professional mechanic. Every bolt on the rear calipers were torqued down to different setting, and was completely loose. So I will stick to using a torque wrench.

Torque Setting on Rear caliper bolts 2004 z71

My reference has been the PDF copy of the FSM, which IMHO is a POS. Seems like it is written by some engineer with zero social skills or ability to organize thoughts in a coherent way. Going through that thing is an exercise in patience. I ordered the Haynes manual that many people here have...

Factory Service Manuals - Anyone have them?

I was wondering if there was some kind of index to the PDF FSM. Each section does not have an index so I end up spending way too much time going through to find what I need.

Torque Setting on Rear caliper bolts 2004 z71

Does anyone know what the torque Setting on Rear caliper bolts 2004 z71 Tahoe? I looked up the FSM and it does not make any sense. I have the JH2 Brake hyd. power setup. The FSM only talks about the front knuckle (caliper mounting bracket to knuckle) torque setting of 129ftlb. There is a...

    Parking brake adjustment question

Oh, definitely tighter now. much better. It is a weird parking break as it gets hard halfway down, then you can keep pushing it to the floor.
