Hi, I have a 1997 Tahoe with a bad motor. It is a 5.7 vortec. I have found a 2006 5.7 in a Z71 P/u. I am wondering if it is a direct swap. Especially in regards to computer. My intake and all sensors on my 97 are fine.
I did find a very slightly bent push rod on the suspect cylinder. Replaced it and still had same noise. All other push rods are good. Changed oil again and oil is flowing pretty good. I had 10w40 in it. I put 5w30 in it this time.
yes. just now double checked part no. I changed oil and filter too so should be no problem there. Lifters are identical to old ones. I don't know if this is noise problem or a different problem. Probably different but i have to figure it out before I go further.
I just noticed that I don't have oil spewing everywhere with my new lifters. Valve covers are off and the old ones made a big mess as expected. Actually almost zero coming out of push rods. Wonder why? Oil pressure is 50 at idle 65 with a little gas.

No missing pieces of screw driver. Remember I have had heads off. All ok except a very small nick in piston. I am a little surprised that nobody is thinking cam lobe here.
I forgot to post that I put new lifters in it when I was trying to fix it (They are roller lifters). Noise does not change when I pull plug wire. As far as adjusting lifters, I did it by the book while it was apart, then had to adjust them running when I cranked it cause they were still noisy...
I have a 1997 Tahoe that I bought a few months back with a blown head gasket. While diagnosing my problem, I had the bright idea of sticking a screw driver in the spark plug hole of one of the cylinders to find TDC. The bad part is I used the starter to bump engine and my screw driver came out...
Jonathan, I finally found out why I couldn't figure out where the wires went. I looked and looked all over that PS pump today and finally pulled the pump off the truck. Still couldn't find it. Then I turned it upside down which was hard to do with the hoses still attached and I saw a small...
Wow...That is probably right. That is exactly where it reaches to. I didn't know Power Steering had wires. Thanks so much. Will look first thing tomorrow but I am sure that is it. Will let you know the outcome. Rick

Its 2 wires. A Black one and a white one. They are just real dirty. All three plugs are already connected to ac. There is no way it could reach more than a foot from where you see it in pic because it is bundled in the harness with the crankshaft sensor which is plugged in behind where you see...
The alternator is hooked up. Now that I look at it again the plug is more orange than red. The wires are wht / blk. There is a clip dead center on bottom of engine that appears to hold this wire so I am pretty sure it goes to driver side.
97 Tahoe Engine Wiring Harness
Hi, Just replaced head gaskets on 97 Tahoe 5.7. I labeled all wiring but one tag fell off and I can't for the life of me find out where it goes. Thought someone could help. It is in the same bundle as the crankshaft sensor but longer. It is a red and blue 2 wire...
Hi in there. I just bought a nice 1997 tahoe 4x4 350 with a blown head gasket. I am tackling the job myself and have disconnected everything on the motor with no problem. Then came what should have been the easiest part; the harness to firewall. I have spread the two plastic clips and beat on...
