Ball joint replacement - Dorman are "superior design"?

I just went ahead an ordered all AC Delco stuff. Hurts, but... I guess since I'm planning (hoping?) on putting it all in myself, I'm saving a boatload in labor costs. <sigh>

Ball joint replacement - Dorman are "superior design"?

No, no GM GEnuine replacement, and AC Delco or Delphi are available under the Daily Driver category - nothing under Premium or Heavy Duty - I guess the question is, are the "Premium" and "Heavy Duty" options actually legit? Is it better to get the "Daily Driver" AC Delco Gold over something...

Ball joint replacement - Dorman are "superior design"?

"DORMAN B6541RD Premium RD Front Lower; Metal Bearing; Superior Design" $29.79 "DORMAN BJ90276RD Premium RD Front Upper" $25.79 These are the only two options on RockAuto on the "Heavy Duty" section. "Premium" has Dorman and Mevotech options. <edit> I'd probably feel better about Mevotech...

How do I KNOW I need new shocks?

I will agree it's probably not optimal... But my shocks are good (the Bilstein 5100s I put in) and springs are good. Someone suggested airbags... There's no way I'm going to that expense on this old truck. I'm just trying to limp it along another couple of years until finances allow me to get...

How do I KNOW I need new shocks?

No, the fronts are crumbling and 50% gone. Or more.

How do I KNOW I need new shocks?

Jacked up the front end, looked undernesth. Body bushing surprisingly all look to be in good shape. Go figure. Need all new bump stops, front and back, but that's not my problem. Looks like I need 3 out of 4 ball joints, leaking or cracked. Might as well call it 4. Need new passenger side...

How do I KNOW I need new shocks?

The more I look into this, the more suspicious I am of the body mounts than the shocks. Shocks were good quality Bilsteins and I would expect more than 30-40k out of them - and like I said, it doesn't feel like bad shocks felt prior to that replacement. I know GM body mounts at this age (~20y)...

How do I KNOW I need new shocks?

Some have expressed concern about the steering, I think that's probably good. It's been checked several times, as this is always a concern with vehicles this age. Notably, one local shop tried to really almost force me to replace the Pittman arm, telling me it was unsafe and they could be liable...

How do I KNOW I need new shocks?

I will add, when I replaced my original shocks back in 2017, I knew they were bad because when driving at highway speeds, I would feel the truck 'skitter' sideways a little bit when hitting bumps. Very unnerving, but I didn't have these weird squeakings, so I don't really know... I'm not feeling...

How do I KNOW I need new shocks?

My '04 Tahoe LT has nearly 300k miles. Replaced the motor with an LQ9 6.0 and had the trans rebuilt just 2 years ago. Oh, wait... ok it's been 3y. But less than 15,000 miles, I think. I put Bilstein 5100s on in late 2017 when I did a slight lift, probably 30k miles since then. No more than 40k...

Apparently I need a new PCM

I drove it to the shop - barely. It would run a couple minutes, then go into 'limp mode' then I would have to pull over, turn it off, let it sit a minute and start it back up. A couple of tries on/off, it would run ok, then another mile or so and repeat. Took me about 20-25 minutes to get...

Apparently I need a new PCM

I do have the 2 credits on my HPTuner. I'm not too sure abiut the other stuff. He said testing the continuity everything was fine going both directions to/from the throttle body. It was only when he reconnectwd the computer even with power off that it was tripping his circuit test he had set...

Apparently I need a new PCM

I see PCMs on Ebay saying programmed to my VIN - but I also assume this will have a stock 5.3 tune, which won't work for me, as I now have a 6.0, AND I will need to be able to activate the electric fans I had installed years ago - though I assume I COULD do this with my HP Tuner system after the...

Apparently I need a new PCM

So my '04 Tahoe I am told has a bad PCM. Back in April I had problems with my truck dropping into 'limp mode' after just a couple of minutes of driving. Took it to a local shop, very reliable, reputable, honest guys, in my opinion. Also very busy (not a coincidence). They had it a few weeks...

Left Driver Side Front Door Panel 2004 Gmc Is broken

I think from looking it is the plastic retainer on the door panel side for that piece, where it attaches on the posterior portion to the door panel. I have that problem on both sides, you have to replace the panel. <sigh> There's not a replaceable clip there, it's a plastic piece that's molded...

Upgrade Bose system with better speakers but keep the Bose amp?

Alpine has higher end stuff and they have stuff for the masses. The cheap stuff is just that - cheap. Pioneer has always had cheap flea market stuff, and they've had the ODR incredibly top of the line stuff, too. Lots of "you get what you pay for" when it comes to audio. There are some...

    Factory Grille Modification

I really like it - if I ever actually get around to fixing my truck up, I'll want to do something like this.

NYC 02 TAHOE W/ESCALADE FRONT great project *PICS ADDED

I don't think you're going to get much. You can't verify the mileage, the cluster was swapped without being programmed properly. Paint is shot. Rust I can see on corner of hood and wheels. That has to be addressed in your climate or it's gonna get bad and probably quick. I'd wager underneath is...

How do you replace lower ball joint?

I don't know how you find out this information - I mean it's not like AC Delco tells you that Moog is a manufacturer supplying the parts to them, is it? I dunno. It is good to know, though, that if I do go with Moog (which I was seriously considering before), the CK is indeed good enough to...

Wow that looks killer! Not just the wrap, but the whole ride!

How do you replace lower ball joint?

That was exactly my question! I was looking at a full front end rebuild, but life concerns got in the way and funds had to be redirected. :(

    welded on dor hinge replacement

I think I saw somewhere that to do it properly you have to pull the dash to mount that backing plate behind the dash. Can anyone verify this?

Rebuiding my front end - upgrades?

If I had a place to do it, I'd try it myself. But, my garage doesn't have room, and my driveway is sloped. Not much other option. I know in some bigger cities they have places you can rent shop space and I think even tools. Man, if we had that here, I'd jump on it. <sigh> <edit> At this point...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

I've got one sitting in my garage for a year now. Was gonna do it when we did my motor and trans, but we didn't get around to dropping the tank and swapping it out. Was gonna get it done at a later date. Then my mechanic died. :owned:
