ok guys, I need some help and this may get long.
I was towing my 18' pj car trailer home Saturday (empty) after letting a good friend use it. I noticed while hauling it home with my '97 4-door 4x4 tahoe I had a reoccurring vibration that felt like it came from the rearend and moved forward...
I just installed all of this a couple months ago on my '97 4-dr. I ordered the door gaskets (that go all the way around the door opening) from metrommp.com. They were imported and while one of them was an inch too short when installed, the other 3 fit just fine and looked like the originals...
2 core unit is my recommendations also. I just did this within the last month or so. Worth the extra 40 bones or so for the extra cooling capacity. If this yukon is bone stock, never will pull anything heavy and is not in a hot climate idling around, the stock radiator will do just fine though.
I've never seen one do this in dry conditions but recently my distributor cap/rotor did this to me when trying to start. I wouldn't think it would cause it to stall but if you have spark and it looks weak, pull the cap and inspect.
Mine would crank over a bit faster than normal and then all...
Yup, rod type. I know the inner door handles break as often as the outer door handles. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the issue. YOu can buy them at just about any parts store but getting one the right color if you don't have grey is getting difficult unless maybe you go the dealer route.
I think I've read where some people have 10" rear brakes. My 10 bolt had factory 11" brakes and that's what the 14 bolt has, albeit the drums weigh about 100x times more than my 10 bolt brakes did. lol
Seems to stop the same though. Everything feels great. I can tell the extra weight is back...
I hear ya. I thought the same thing and instead of rebuilding my 10 bolt I went with the 14 bolt since I found one so cheap. I don't do any off-roading but do haul a car trailer several times and figured the 14 bolt should work fine for me.
PLUS I'm a glutton for punishment and figured a swap...
I've got a 4 door tahoe so I had the factory sway bar already and decided to swap the mounts while I had everything apart.
Including what I paid for the rearend and the spider gears I have $400 in it, plus u-bolts and other items on top of that.
Out with the old, in with the new. It's not as purty as I wanted since I decided to weld the sway bar mounts to it but it is a daily driver and I live on dirt/gravel roads....
Nothing special about it. just a 60k miles original rear. I put new spider gears in it and seals. The bearings all...
I saw that too. I went back and reread. It says you dropped an engine from a '98 in your tahoe. Did you maintain the '98 vortec fueling system and transfer the electronics over with it or did you just buy a vortec style intake and bolt your tbi unit to it?
anyone have any pics of their camera mounted?
This would be a nice upgrade on mine for when the wife is driving it. The poor clawfoot tub I turned into a flowerbed is tired of getting backed into.
couple more pics.
one other thing, I removed the two screws from the firewall just behind the engine that retain the hvac box in the area I was working. This gave me just enough wiggle to pop that 4th clip off the front (firewall side) right side of the box.
Note: This is technically my...
Okay, I did this repair several years ago on another tahoe I used to own but I used the following link as a good refresher on the job.

The same info might be on this site...
I know right. I often wonder why I spend so much time cleaning and painting things that will just get dirty and form surface from road rash the second they are installed on a daily driver. It must be my gearhead OCD. HA!
I have pics of most of the disassembly except pics of the dash rotated back. I stopped taking pics at that point and it was 2 a.m. when I finally got the flappers installed. I took no pics of reassembly. Was pretty tired at that point. I'm kicking myself now but will post what I have later today.
Just a teaser for now guys and gals. I got it freshened up and painted. Brake parts are cleaned and waiting for install. I'm gonna use my tahoe e-brake cables so I'm waiting to install the brakes till I do the swap.
Swap should happen this coming Sunday.
Why do we do this to ourselves? buy something older and spend $$ and LOT of time bringing it back up to like-new standards. We could have bought something much newer by the time we were done.
Who cares!!...I love turning wrenches and not having a car payment! lol
Flapper doors are...
Use can also buy the headliner material in rolls with the foam already attached. That's what I do. I also use the 3m headliner spray adhesive. One can also order rolls of headliner material from stock interiors. I've been pleased with their stuff also.
for what it's worth, I found that a red...
You need to get the cap off and inspect the cap and rotor. The stripped hole is common. I've seen zip ties used before (while not a great or factory approved method) and they will work. Depends on what your budget and time issues are. If you don't have the time or money, zip tie it back on. I'm...
I agree on running stock ac delco plugs. I've had lots of tbi trucks and love them but they do lack the diagnostic capability of today's vehicle.
On the timing, make sure you disconnecting the brown with black stripe wire before checking or setting timing. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong...
