    Weird problem with 4th gear

So my 2004 tahoe 5.3l has started acting up in 4th gear. It will cruise just fine at 75 but will not hold any speed above that unless I shift it into 3rd. All other gears work fine, it is lifted on 33s but has been this way for a while and it started this a few weeks ago. The torque converter...

    Sloppy Steering

This was a email I sent requesting the part and that was what I was told, I think the website only has a couple of options. He said it could be ordered over the phone so I would double check before ordering.

    Sloppy Steering

Hello, Thank you for your inquiry. We stock a Silverado HD steering gear the a Tahoe sector shaft that is popular. This unit comes with oversize recirculating ball bearings in the worm and piston assembly and an additional seal at the sector shaft. This is our part number 2871. This unit runs...

Feedback, buzzing, whine, whatever you call it

Sorry you didn't get a answer, this can also be a ground loop problem too. Basically a bad ground with HU or amp. Just for anyone viewing in the future or if it happens again.

    New head unit

I tapped into my reverse wire on my trailer plug (stock). I have an alpine and it will automatically flip to the camera when in reverse. As far as upgrades go, alpine (i am a alpine fan) makes a mini amp along with other manufactures that will fit behind the glove box or even down under the cup...

    Sloppy Steering

Sorry for the long disappearance, Was out on work. I can't get the pick of what I was talking about, However after not having driven the Tahoe for almost a month I think I'm going to wait and get a red head gear box. I checked my rental car when I was out of town and it seemed to have the same...

    Sloppy Steering

So I finally got to the problem, it is the tilt joint. I tried the t25 screws and they are tight in the column. It is loose on the wheel side of the column is this serviceable or do I have to go with a new column?

    Sloppy Steering

After having some time off and continuing to look for the cause of this I think it is in the joint of the tilt function. I held the shaft in place and was able to turn the wheel a little. Is this something rebuildable or does the coloum have to be replaced? It doesn't look like a u joint, more...

    Sloppy Steering

ok, so I went in and had my tires rotated (routine rotation) and now it feels a lot better, there is still some slop but not even close to what it was. I was told by the shop that my tires were "chopped out" and this is why I had such problems...

    Sloppy Steering

Alignment was checked by Firestone (lifetime alignment) and they said everything was within specks, and on the sheet they sowed everything was green. Checked out the wheel and nothing is loose behind it (just a bolt with splines). I am going to try the redhead gear box and see if that works...

    Sloppy Steering

Ok, So I think I have found the slop. I think it might actually be IN THE STEERING WHEEL, are there any bearings or is it just a bolt or bolts that hold the wheel on and in place? is it possible for these parts to become loose?

    Sloppy Steering

That was replaced and the wheel and both upper and lower steering shafts are solid, the play looks like it is in the gear box...I got a reman one, do they make new or improved ones?

    Sloppy Steering

OK so I tightened the box (about 1/2 a turn) and it seems to have helped a little bit, how much can this be safely tightened?

    Sloppy Steering

Ok, so I have notice that on the freeway (65mph+) my steering gets sloppy. I can keep it in the lane but I am constantly having to correct/adjust her. I have replaced the following: -upper control arms -lower ball joints -Inner/outer tie rods -idler arm -pitman arm -Intermediate steering shaft...

    ANOTHER HID QUESTION

My first set of projectors had this issue, for me the housing was not a true projector. It had no cutoff and multiple reflector surfaces. The projectors I have now have a solid reflection surface (smooth, not like a disko ball or your stock headlights) and no dark spot. As far as how to aim...

Grinding noise wheels only first 200-300 feet of driving?

I have all the hardware pictured, I discovered that the rubber boot that the caliper pins slide into was chewed up really good! the pin was rusted and no grease on the pin or that part of the caliper, went ahead and replaced the caliper and BAM! no noise so far. So the noise I guess was the...

    ANOTHER HID QUESTION

Don't know where you are located, In Texas they are illegal unless car came equipped with them. You can run LEDs and be just fine (had my set in highs and lows for almost a year). The reason people want you to run projectors is to not blind oncoming traffic, every time this happens to me I...

Grinding noise wheels only first 200-300 feet of driving?

ok, conformed it is something on the brakes...If i apply the brakes the noise goes away, come off and the noise is present. Should I have the spring clips on the back of the pads or no?

Wheel Bearing Brand Recommendations and Shocks

I got the Timken bearings about 6 months ago and already had to replace them under warranty. From what I was told these are the best brand to get, they carry a 1 year warranty from rock auto so I'm not too bummed about them going out. As far as the process goes, undo all the clips for the...

Grinding noise wheels only first 200-300 feet of driving?

Yes, the backing plates are not touching the rotor. I can go ahead and rule out wheel bearing, I tried this morning by turning side to side while the noise is happening and it did not effect the noise. It sounds more gear related than brake... I will be checking my rear diff sometime this week...

Grinding noise wheels only first 200-300 feet of driving?

ok, so I have a 2004 tahoe with 3" lift. When I did the lift 6 months ago I replaced the stock bearings with TIMEKEN and everything was fine until about a month ago. I started to notice a girding noise like a bearing was going out. I raised the front up and checked the passenger side and...

    Amp Location

Open your center console and remove the 4 phillips head screws under the rubber mat. Remove the console insert and it should be under there. That is where mine was...The wire harness is clipped under the cup holder.

Loss Of Power at 70-75 MPH

Yep! thats what my rear sensor looked like, nice and rusted. I am going to be redoing this sometime soon, the only thing I can think of is I still had some moisture in my rear bank and that caused these to foul. Make sure you get all the moisture out so you won't have to redo it again like me.....

Loss Of Power at 70-75 MPH

I bought the AC Delco ones and yes replaced the harness. I also used RTV to seal the rubber covers and where the harness comes through.
