    My 2013 Yukon XL 1500

And Just for the record it had a bunch of little things that needed attention that I've taken care of: - Rear defroster glass tab broken off (repaired with permatex kit) - door panel lock rattle (tesa fuzzy tape on back side kept them from rattling) - rear window glass release button (new...

    My 2013 Yukon XL 1500

Good news! It passed with the Evap monitoring test still pending. apparently as long as all the others have passed with no DTC's and that one test is pending (not failed) then it will pass. Heading out of town this weekend but I'll be tuning AFM out of it as soon as I get back. then figuring out...

    My 2013 Yukon XL 1500

Unfortunately the way those AFM disablers work is to cause an interference with the monitoring tests and when a code appears in the computer it automatically clears it. So if thats the case I would need to still drive for a bit to pass the tests that were interrupted. Or at least thats my...

Forgot to include I replaced the spark plugs. 3 different brands and likely 3 different ages. Some worse than others.

    My 2013 Yukon XL 1500

Ok got it tore all apart again. Lifter only too two small taps to pop free. Got it all back together. Took about 4 hours from start to finish until it was ready to start. Drove it for about 30 minutes and 5 of 8 monitoring tests completed. Hope to get the others to finish this weekend and...

    My 2013 Yukon XL 1500

Yeah I'd prefer to just delete the AFM parts altogether. But I'm afraid while an emissions test normally won't detect a tune, CA recently started doing the same check on Gas engines as they've been doing with Diesel's for a few years now. they scan the ECM for the CVN (Checksum Verification...

    My 2013 Yukon XL 1500

Yup. I'd love to get it disabled but I need to get it to pass CA smog first. Unfortunately this bit me in the butt today. So I screwed up.... I was driving it around today to get the monitoring tests to pass so we could smog it. Well I was driving it with the trans in M5 and it was...

    My 2013 Yukon XL 1500

Alright so we got it all back together tonight and... Got it all buttoned up and ready to fire with fresh oil, filter and Amsoil motor flush. After Two rounds of Amsoil flush (with fresh oil and filter each time) cut open both filters, no debris or metal found in either. Put in a final...

For a fun comparison..... The Left image is the passenger valve cover from this 2013 5.3L AFM w/ 94k miles. Appears to be ~10k mi OCI (following the message on the cluster) with cheap synthetic oil and no name filters used. The Right image is the driver valve cover from our 2004 5.3L...

    My 2013 Yukon XL 1500

So got the intake manifold, passenger valve cover and valley cover off last night. After confirming the intake lifter on #6 was collapsed as expected (checking the rocker arm was flopping back and forth), we proceeded with a trick to shock the lifter and cause it to release. I used a tool...

    My 2013 Yukon XL 1500

Drained the oil and went through it with a fine screen and magnet, cut open the filter and went through all the filter media/pleats. Found no metal anywhere but definitely noticed some grit in the bottom of the oil filter and in the pleats. I can't say it was like sand but definitely gritty...

    My 2013 Yukon XL 1500

So tomorrow the plan is the drain the oil and cut open the oil filter to see if there's any carnage caught in there. Apparently the lifter started knocking and misfiring about 9 miles from the house where they parked it. I did toss in a bottle of MMO in the crankcase and drove it about 6...

    My 2013 Yukon XL 1500

Let’s see how far this goes…. I picked up a high mileage 2013 GMC Yukon XL SLT 1500 4WD the other day with a misfire and lifter knock on cyl 6. Odometer shows 186k miles, but GM dealer replaced the engine at 88k miles due to a failed afm lifter. So currently motor has just under 100k and...

    2013 Yukon Engine Knock...

So I actually just picked up a 2013 Yukon xl 5.3 with a misfire on cyl 6 and same tapping noise. Super clean truck. Planning to do full afm delete with ls7 lifters, cam , etc. if you’ve done valve cover gaskets spark plugs or a water pump you can probably do this yourself. That’s my plan.

4WD transfer case in AWD Yukon?

if its grinding when put in park, sounds like the Tcase is in neutral. If you have access to a tech2 you can see if the encoder motor on the Tcase can communicate and verify the current shift position.

    2003 z71 tahoe

@ncalvo Nice build! I noticed you installed the s&b silicone body mounts. How do you like them? Stiffer than OEM rubber or about the same? I tried polyurethane mounts years ago and they were terrible. Felt every imperfection in the road practically rattled the truck apart. Ripped them out 3...

    New noise. Please help.

@OP ‘just to clarify and be sure your on the same page… ‘it sounds like you changed the idler (next to the alternator) on the primary serpentine belt (crank pulley, water pump, alternator, power steering, etc). there is also a tensioner for that belt usually opposite of the alternator (near...

    Reliability

Yeah mileage really has nothing to do with reliability on a road trip. If you have maintained it according to the owners manual and take care of issues when they arise instead of pushing things off till it becomes a more serious problem you’ll more than likely be fine. Ive mentioned in another...

    Should I take a 3000 miles road trip w/ 144k miles

We just did a 5500 mile cross country trip in ours with 190k on motor, 370k on the rest of the rig. I would not hesitate to do it again and again. I do all maintenance/ repairs so i know my rig in and out and trust it more than i would any other car, especially a rental. It’s really whatever...
