I would like to have the 383, the extra TQ and HP would greatly help when pulling the four wheelers to the camp. But I'm sure I will have to have the tranny upgraded also.
the 383 is from a local GM dealer, he has great prices on parts, and apparently on crate motors.
I'm thinking about buying the stock replacement motor now for when I need it.
The two that I mention above are new GM crate motors that will go in turnkey.
by what I see so far on the net 2000.00 grand for a crate motor with a warrenty isn't too bad. of couse the HE383E is a direct drop in replacement and the dealer said there is nothing to do extra that the trucks...
I thought the sig explained what I'm driving. My bad next time I will write a book.
Please feel free to delete this thread, bought some bilstiens online this morning.
I just did mine, I used a flatscrew driver with a thin blade. start on the right side middle of switch and pry out. once you can get your finger in that spot take your driver and pry top middle of switch and then you can pull it out.
A bad switch can cause you problems like mine, (see my thread in this forum; 4 wheel drive not working).
long story short is that my switch started shorting out and engage the front diff without me hitting the switch!. and at 50MPH thats not good. it's better to replace than to destroy a...
Thanks niterunnr, Mine is engaging the actuator that you purchased just not when I want it to. with the 4x4 engageing with out my input and the switch light blinking erratically at different times I think the switch is toast.
Bud.
well it looks to be my switch is the culpret. yesterday it started trying to engage the 4x4 while I was driving down the road NOT A GOOD THING!!! so I had to pull the switch and disconnect it untill I get a nother one.
Now I know why people like a manual lever to engage the front wheels.
So...
Well, I found out some stuff today about the front diff actuator;
1. It's usally a dealer only item unless you buy off the internet or junk yard
cost about 215.00 at the stealer. and 80.00 or so on internet just not sure about that.
2. Takes about 30 min to swap. if you have a lift...
I like the GM crate motor option, then you know you got a new motor which will last and gives you peace of mind. with the cost of a rebuild I would go new.
Great!!! I mean good to hear, I thought maybe the transfercase had another problem.
I called the tranny shop this morning and he said the same thing you guy's are suggesting.
I thought that click or clunk was the actuator doing its job but he said it was the transfercase.
Hotrod, Raptor...
OK, I have a 99 Hoe with the auto shift button 4x4 system. last month I had the transfer case rebuilt by a friend that has operated a Tranny shop for years so I have to say he did it right.
here's what I do know. the lights that are on the shift buttons or switches do not stay on, they just...
those front diffs usually dont go bad. are you sure its not the transfer case, just had the snap ring go out in mine made a terrible noise when engaged.
I know you said you had shavings, is this actual shavings or fine metal particals? most all diffs will have some sort of metal wear which...
It only does it on start up for a second after that no issues of any kind strong running motor and smooth.
