    2003 Oldsmobile Alero

So my daughter, the youngest old lady I’ve ever seen, has purchased the above car. It has no joke 100,600 miles. It is in amazing condition for its age and appears to even have original paint, except for the right rear door. A funky issue has popped up where the engine just stops while driving...

    2003 Tahoe 5.3 VIN-Z - P0300 With a Twist

I had an intermittent limp mode issue for the longest time. I could even fix it just by slamming the drivers door on occasion. Since you’ve done so much work to your engine, I would check the place I found my problem. The underside of the main harness as it crosses the intake manifold. In my...

    Non functioning parking brake SOLVED.

Funny. I did sort of update the last post, and added a picture. I guess the pic never posted. I’ll have to go back and edit if I can. I wanted to post a pic of the axle I found on Facebook. I also posted the solved post here in hopes to reach more people that may have questions as to how the...

    Non functioning parking brake SOLVED.

So some of you may remember the parking brake issue I was having that I posted in another section. Well, it has been solved. I’m posting this here in hopes more people will see this. The (04 Suburban z71, stock 10 bolt rear axle) parking brake works by way of a lever on the backing plate. The...

    Rear axle cross compatibility.

Replacement axle ready to rock! After all the shopping and learning, I scored a complete unit from Facebook marketplace for $100. Alteady home stripped down ready to go. Shiny due to rust converter. Diamond is the rough even had brand new brakes. Let the fun begin.

    Rear axle cross compatibility.

Thanks for all the help and info guys. I really really appreciate it. The one axle fell through but I’ve found two more to look at, both are standard 10 bolt with 3.73. Rust is my enemy right now and I’m hoping I can find a replacement that isn’t too bad off.

    Transfer case assembly fricka frack!

I second this. I don’t look forward to it either, but I did it by myself on my back in the driveway. Remove the tcase mount and let it rest on the crossmember to get enough clearance for the top bolt. And get a super shorty wrench.

    Bad trans or transfer case?

The tcase can fail, as mine did. It’s the hole that gets work into the tail shaft housing and eventually leaks out all the fluid. Burns up the bearings fast. If you drain yours and there’s lots of fluid in it and it doesn’t look sparkly, then the tcase may be ok or just broke a chain maybe...

    Rear axle cross compatibility.

I appreciate it. I’m not looking to change anything. It’s equipped with 3.73stock so I want to make sure whatever axle I find will bolt right in. And it’s crazy that gm didn’t change the axle for that many years. I’m thankful as finding a replacement will be easy, but it’s crazy.

    Bad trans or transfer case?

As I just swapped a tcase on my 04 Sub, the tcase and trans do not share fluid in any way. There is a breather type hole in the back of the trans where fluid can seep into the adapter. I found that out when I pulled my trans and fluid ran right out that hole. Don’t even know why it’s there...

    Rear axle cross compatibility.

I need to replace the rear axle of my 04 Suburban z71. I just saw that the rear axles are the same from 99-18? Did I read that post wrong? All I need is 3.73 gears and I’m good. I just need to know the year compatibility range before I make a couple hundred dollar mistake as I’ll be looking at...

what useful items do you carry in your SUV?

5 kids. If anything happens, I’ll make them do it. Oh, and a phone and charger so I can text pics of them doing all the work. (But seriously, a leatherman, a small pocket knife, and lots of napkins and plastic forks)

    2001 Tahoe 4wd theory

Also, I believe the auto feature works through the three speed sensors on the tcase as well. Not totally sure, but my 04 sub z71 has them and auto 4wd and I know that push button 4wd operation requires them all to be working properly. Just trying to help.

Loose steering, I’ve searched, googled replaced front end parts and multiple steering gears

Idler arm bracket? The idler arm bolts to it to hold the drag link level. It’s called “bracket” but it’s actually a shaft in a housing. The housing bolts to the crossmember and the idler arm to the shaft so the arm can rotate passively. I’m just throwing junk out there I haven’t seen mentioned...

    Need help with parking brake.

Yea. I did fail to mention the amount of rust present on the axle flanges. The passenger dust shield is almost completely gone. I have considered the rust to be why it doesn’t work as some small divot or intention has just finally rusted away. I’ll look into the cable though too. I appreciate...

    Need help with parking brake.

So my 04 Sub won’t pass inspection due to non functioning parking brake. I fixed all the other things that failed and replaced the rear brakes/parking shoes. But I have now surmised that the lever that actuates the pb shoe slips out of its groove when applied, at least on the passenger side...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

So YESTERDAY, after realizing everything was going so well with dash repairs, I managed to break the hazard switch because I’m a dumbass. So now that whole unit has to be replaced because I like spending money I don’t have.

2004 Sub z71 no backlight on gauge cluster

New Amazon bulbs in. Cluster looks great now. Need to adjust the tach needle a touch. Turns out those little plastic bulb sockets are much easier to solder in than I thought. Thanks for the helps. I’m soldering in new bulbs for the climate control unit now. Since everything is going ok, I...

2004 Sub z71 no backlight on gauge cluster

Thanks fellas. Found I do have proper voltage to cluster connector and finally found voltage at the individual sockets. One randomly started working. Never worked before. Weird. But the others show voltage but don’t work. So, now to find new bulbs.

2004 Sub z71 no backlight on gauge cluster

New poster. I finally decided to tackle the weird gauge backlight I’ve had since I bought my Sub used. Check out the pic if it posts right. The tiny bulbs look ok but when I put power to them individually there’s no light. All burned out?? The strip works as it sits so I know backlight power is...

Things to repair while engine is out.

Since mine failed miserably, I will recommend the heater hose connectors(and hoses). The plastic tee and the heater core connectors get brittle and crack. Replace it all now and save on another coolant replacement.
  23. V

Well i found the source of my coolant leak (big crack)

Same thing on mine. 04 suburban. Driver side tank at the top. Took a while to figure out where the puddle on the ground was coming from. For the trouble, I just replaced it. I’m not patching and hoping.

In a real pickle with fuel pump issues. Advice appreciated!!

Yes they do have an oil pressure cutoff. I had a similar issue with my 01 Yukon then with 04 sub after engine swap. If the oil pressure sender at the back of the block behind the intake reads fully open, it will interrupt fuel. Crank all you want, no start and no codes. Try replacing that switch...

    Service 4wd - but only in 2wd

I forgot the codes I pulled when something similar happened to me. I replaced the encoder ring easily and cheaply. That fixed the main issue. A later issue is with the speed sensors. They detect the moment of the front and rear driveshafts. They are also cheap and there are two on the tcase...
