OEM spare tire mount, 99 Tahoe Basic 2dr 4x4

Thank you for the references and parts list. I was a bit hasty with this post. I'd forgotten my wife searched for the mount 2yrs ago. She called about 20 shops listed @ Car-Parts over 2wks b4 she gave up. Many shops were helpful and sent images, but most didn't seem to know there's a difference...

'99 Tahoe Basic 2dr 4x4, Build sheet questions

I've asked a couple questions here I now see I might have discovered with more research, but I've learned enough already to resolve more questions cruising the forum. Your tip, GM Heritage Archive, is a big help. I've learned much about our Base model. It has all the HD stuff, but no...

OEM spare tire mount, 99 Tahoe Basic 2dr 4x4

Looking for an OEM spare tire mount for 99 Tahoe Basic 2dr 4x4. Previous owner removed the mount assembly and tire for more boombox space. I have tire chained to body for safety, but it takes up already limited flat space. We've searched for this bracket w/o success. There seems to be more...

Hard decision on which steering box to try next

I recently had ball joints and bearings replaced on our 99 Tahoe Basic 2dr 4x4 and realigned. Suspension is stock except for Hellwig rear stabilizer, missing from 2dr Basic. Next I replaced the original steering gear (179k/mi) with an Edelmann box & pump. I'm satisified with the improvement. It...

Wrong oil filter for 99 Tahoe w/350 engine

Thanks for the images. I see in your 1st image what appears to be a stabilizer bar, similar to mine. The stabilizer goes between bellhousing and motormount on both sides of engine. I assume the adapter is due to the stabilizer passing thru the position of the standard vertical filter. There...

Results of recent suspension work, 99 Tahoe Basic 2dr 4x4

Coupler is LARS#205. I've written to them about misaligned steering wheel. Another reply to this posts (I can't see other replies from this screen to include their name) suggests centering steering wheel by changing toe-in adjustment. I'll look into this. I just had it aligned and would have...

Results of recent suspension work, 99 Tahoe Basic 2dr 4x4

Good suggestion. The rear SB was tough on my budget, but it made such a difference, I'm going to plan for this change too. Thanks

    99 Tahoe Basic 2dr 4x4 Grill question

Is this grill stock or optional for 99 Tahoe? I've not seen another similar vintage Tahoe with this grill. We bought the Tahoe 4yrs ago and didn't realize the grill is different until later.

Wrong oil filter for 99 Tahoe w/350 engine

Changing oil on our 99 Tahoe w/350 engine, I discovered I had the wrong new filter. To my surprise, there is an adapter attached to the stock filter flange that mounts a smaller filter positioned on an angle from vertical. Interfering with the location of the usual filter is a stabilizer...

Results of recent suspension work, 99 Tahoe Basic 2dr 4x4

I just had the ball joints & wheel bearings replaced, aligned, & installed Edelmann Steering gear & pump. Replaced rag coupling with aftermarket coupling, and installed Hellwig #7608 rear stabilizer. Some observations: Steering effort is greater than original gearbox. Rag coupler has steering...

99 2dr Basic Tahoe, diesel possible?

Thanks for the info. I would have to pay a shop for the work; best I stick with the gas engine.

99 2dr Basic Tahoe, diesel possible?

I have a 99 2dr Tahoe w/gas engine. All in good condition. I'm wondering if this model was also sold with diesel engine? Is it reasonable to swap a GM diesel engine into this Tahoe using all GM parts? Would I need another wiring harness? Thanks for your input.
