02 Yukon stereo

I've had this Yukon for a little over a year and a half. I don't know much about stereos. Aftermarket stereo was installed by previous owner. Probably doesn't sound any different than the stock one. Right front speaker did not work. It had the speaker with a tweeter. I replaced with the same. Sounds OK. It has a aftermarket subwoofer in the left rear where a stock one was. I don't think it was a Bose setup from the factory. They cut the wires at the amp and bypassed it (first pic). And/or ran wires to the speakers. (second pic-has one in both front doors) What is this? And what does it do? I cleaned it up before putting it back in the door. I usually don't drive it that much but when I do I would like to have the stereo sound good. Should I just rip everything out and start over? Or can I make it sound better?

Head unit is a Alpine. And the light does not dim at night and really bright driving. What wire needs to be hooked up and to what to get it to dim when the lights are on? It does have a wiring kit plugged in from the stereo to the factory plug. Thanks

2nd Pic is a Crossover. Look it up for more info. I would start over with a newer system. I was lucky had the stock system never messed with. replacing all my speakers with new ones and going with a new in dash stereo.

X2. I'd start from scratch, but if the components themselves are good--100% know they're good--I'd just reuse them. Alpine and Boston Acoustics are good components. What brand speakers do you have?
In my 03 iirc, the orange wire is for the dimmer.
If you had Bose, it would say it on your front door speaker grills.
The crossover seperates your highs, mids and lows to the proper speakers and tweeters so everything will sound cleaner.

Thanks for the info. I will read up on the crossovers. It does not say Bose on the speaker grills. I am going to trace back the wires from the crossover that says amplifier to see where they go. With the wires all cut at the amp maybe they put one somewhere else. Looks like they used part of the factory harness for wiring up speakers but not sure. Stereo sounds like a crap stereo at lower volume but at higher volume it sounds a lot better. Seems like it needs something. I would think with the parts that are installed it would sound great. But maybe it's just old. Going to mess with it a little bit and decide if I'm going to replace it all or not.

Hello, I'm working on my install now. What wire on the aftermarket radio side would you tap the orange dimmer wire to? I am using metra 70-1858, the aftermarket radio harness doesn't have a wire designated for dimmer. It has yellow 12v constant, red acc 12v, black ground, blue antenna, purple reverse, light green parking brake, and all the standard speaker wires. Also, my understanding is that I need to connect the blue antenna wire to the pink wire in the now unused harness plug to power the factory amp. Is that correct, after my initial install earlier, I had no sound from the speakers. Thank you, sorry for butting in the post.

Not really sure. Everything on the aftermarket harness should be labeled. Do you have Bose? What year vehicle is it? FYI--I'm def no pro, just going from my personal experience.

Its a 2002 yukon, non bose, factory sub and amp and on star. I realized I'm not worried about the dimming because I can switch the new deck to night mode to reduce the light. My main question is, is all I have to do to get sound working is connect the blue antenna wire to the pink wire on the unused harness? Or I've seen someone say that if I connect the blue wire on the metra harness to the blue wire on the aftermarket harness, that will power the amp on? All the speakers are fine and in working order prior to this new headunit. Thanks for your help
