The relay mod works, but not perfectly. If you want, you can try bringing(just loosely ran, don't have to hide it yet until we can confirm this works) a constant 12v line up to the domes and connect it to the same spot where they are getting power now. But before you connect it, add a diode with the line facing the power source(away from the switch) and add a diode to the original power source too. I'm guessing they only ran one power line up to the domes from the factory.
This is just theory right now, so, wait for Chris to chime in so he can give his input and approval. I don't want to be responsible for screwing up your truck.

Now, before you borrow the finger paint, let me throw a MONKEY WRENCH your way, as the most BIZARRE thing just happened:

Installed the lights yesterday and had the problem since.

I just went to take my daughter somewhere and as she is driving with me, she wants to read something and turns on the front passenger reading/map light. Dim, as expected.

She is done reading and wants to look at something in the vanity mirror and as she opens it, I hear a click and the reading lamp/map light is as bright as can be.
I can not believe it, play around with it numerous times, turn it back off and on and even have her play with the vanity mirror a few times, I do the same with the drivers one. I even stop, shut the truck off and see if this may change anything.

NOPE, all lights still work in the manual position, BRIGHT as when the doors open. :wtf2:

NOW WHAT? BUT, it seems like MY ISSUE is solved!!!!!!!

Just a quick FYI --

Since my "Vanity Mirror Incident", my situation has NOT changed. After being parked overnight, all LED's still work as they should.

wtf?! how much for her shipped to 12110???? (no **** intended) lol

Trust me, the moment she will get there and open her mouth, you will send her straight back with Cash on Delivery. She is 9 and knows more about this world then I EVER WILL.

I am telling you, the map lamp was on and VERY dim, she opened the vanity mirror on the passenger side, ............... I hear a click, ............... the map light is as bright as when the doors open and it is still this way on all map lights throughout the truck (knock on wood).

The only problem I have now is deciding if I should change the vanity mirror bulbs to LEDs as well (which are in the mail), or shall I leave it all alone since it works now????

And the guinea pig(Mike) can't grasp the concept without a color-by-numbers picture!

You know i had said something, but have to take my foot out of my mouth, i didnt read whole post. So if you saw it, i apologize. But honestly i do get the concept, just dont feel like reading both you guys posts, gets confusing. A picture would still be sweet deal for me as well as everyone, b/c electronics isnt everyones forte. (sp)

But my last comment on this post, is what im doing right now. Just open the vanity and the lights come on. ( now heres a question, figure out why that makes the lights come on full bright ????) lol

pretty much, but i dont get what people did in the pics of the dome lights. I have never actually pulled mine and looked at the back

I was involved in the beginning but have lost it through many posts as i havent been very active lately

Exactly !!!

meaning...Does it work? Is it worth me trying? or any other tests i could be the guinea pig for?

As chauncy said, the pics and all this thread basically are of the " Relay making a annoying buzzing sound, (vid i posted up) as well as the one dome light the relay is on, goes dim for some reason. Then you have to click it to make them all bright again. Happens all the time. I got tired of hearing the buzzing. So took it all out and back to stock again. If you would like to try what Chauncey and Riveieracing are talking about go ahead. For me, im done w/ fixing this. Other things at the moment more important and i fixed it good enough to use. (just open vanity)

Just a quick FYI --

Jochen,

I must thank you and your daughter for having her, and her needing to look at herself in the vanity. B/c i put mine all back to stock, took out relay and all, and installed it back in tahoe. Lights dim, opened vanity, heard click, BAM... full bright dome lights on all. Turned truck off/on/ off / on. Stayed good to go.

But.... then i ate and some other things, went back to tahoe, NOPE, dim again, opened vanity, full bright again. So maybe it has to learn or something, GM's crazy, so might be. But glad yours worked, opening the vanity when i need light, is fine by me. No wires to run, no relays, no noises, nothing. Im happy. Thanks again.

So if anyone wants a quick, really easy fix and dont have to take anything apart, just open your vanity when you get in and its fine. Until a further time, at least on mine.

Ghetto mod meaning " The Relay" Yes the relay mod works just fine. All lights work just fine, until the relay " sleeps" then the lights are dim. You have to push that dome you put the relay on to make them all work again. And i noticed that it was quite often sleeping. ha ha. And then once the lights dim, the relay buzzes, everytime. Like its powering down w/ the dimming of the lights. But doesnt just shut off, its slowly goes off. So its buzzzzzzz the whole time. Its quick, but annoying to me.

Opening the vanity is much faster, easier and simpler of a fix to me. I dont use those lights that much.
