04 Tahoe Z71 4X4, 180K miles.

My electronic push button selector switch for my 4X4 is acting up. I normally run in 2 High, recently upon starting the vehicle it will be in neutral. One time I was going 70 on the interstate when I noticed the light was on neutral.

Is there a risk of the switch malfunctioning and it switching into 4 High or 4 Low while traveling at high speeds. I can only imagine that would not be a good or safe thing to have happen.

Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

Since you didn't say that the transfer case had shifted into neutral while driving on the interstate, your problem is the transmitter, not the motor or switches. The transmitter is located on the t-case and sends a signal that lights the correct lamp and lets the PCM know the correct mode. This allows the pcm decide whether to disable the traction control.

The "transmitter" aka encoder ring is part of the electric shift motor mounted on the drivers side of the transfer case. You can buy a new shift motor or take yours off and take shift motor apart and replace the encoder ring.
