Hello all. On my way to work this morning I got a warning chime that coolant temp was hot. Looked at the temp gauge and it was close to the 260 mark. I had been driving for 5-10 minutes at 55-65 mph. I've never had a vehicle overheat while driving at highway speeds. Let it cool down and got it back home to take the wife's vehicle to work. By the time I got back home it was overheating again. I haven't looked at anything yet other than checked the coolant level in the tank under the hood which was normal. Coolant in the tank was cool as was the hose running to it; bigger hose that runs across the fan shroud from the radiator was extremely hot to the touch. I'm going to dig into this when I'm off tomorrow but in the mean time any ideas what could be wrong? Or where to start checking things? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your thermostat may have gone bad, and is not opening up to allow the water to move. Either that, or your pump is failing. When you get home, look beneath the truck and see if you can find evidence of a coolant leak. If so, it's your pump. If not, it's most likely your t-stat.

If one hose is cold and the other is frying hot, your thermostat is stuck closed and needs to be replaced! Do yourself a favor and get under the truck to see if any coolant is leaking at the water pumps weep hole and if so do yourself a favor and replace both!
