I have an 02 lq4 in my 00 Tahoe, but it only had 40k miles on it so it was cherry. I would say stay at least within the same generation as your truck so 03+ on an engine option if possible or at least a known history.

Just stay away from anything with cast iron heads. Your intake will swap over to the new motor so being flex fuel is not a problem, just make sure your crank sensor is in the same location as the new engine. If the 6.0 comes with a spacer on the back of the crank and and a different looking/flat flexplate don't use it. It's for a 4l80 and won't fit your 4l60. Use your stock plate no spacer.

I see u posted on the sticky about the lq4/9 so you know at least that much. If your 5.3 is not giving you problems consider putting a blower on it.

Travis, the ultimate Gen III 5.3 was the L33. It produced 310 horsepower and 335 Ft Lbs of torque. Read up on it and see if that's something you might like.

The LQ4 is the way to go imo unless you can find a good deal on an LQ9 out of an 02-06 Escalade they have 345hp stock but you’ll need to run 91 I have to run 93 since they don’t have 91 out here

The main difference of why the lq9(345 hp) makes more power than the lq4(300-325 hp) is because the pistons, about 10-20 hp more than an lq4 which isn't gonna matter if your building up the engine anyway. If you plan on forced induction or high compression, the later years of 05-06 had the gen4 internals, which are stronger than the gen 3 internals. Even of your vehicle is flex fuel, it doesn't matter if the engine is flex fuel or not because the lq4 and lq9 can run flex fuel as long as you have it enabled in the tune, along with a flex fuel/ fuel composition sensor.

Another thing to watch out for is if your fuel system is return/returnless, because you'll have to change fuel rails and change the injector flow rate in the tune for return vs returnless seeing how some intakes/engine combinations came with one or the other. Be mindful that the earlier 99-and some 2000 models had a longer crank and should be swapped for a shorter one, or you might run into issues with bearings. Hope this helps!

cool, yall answered my question, now i know what to shop for..I actually found a 05 lq4 with 70k,theyre asking 1900 and has warranty..The engine thta scurrently in the truck is running great.Awhile back a lifter started bleeding off and knocking at hiway speeds,I ran some marvel mystery oil for 100 miles and it cleaned up whatever trash was in the lifter.Truck and engine has 180k .Im keeping the truck as i HATE car payments,id rather just custmize it and drive it,plus its a ex highway patrol truck.I absolutley love it..Kinda shooting for a stout, lowered ppv tahoe..thanks guys

I have an 05 LQ4 that had 105,000 on it. Came from a Silverado. It was mostly complete with harness and pcm. Had to swap a few things because it must've fell--oil pan, and ftont cover. I can't complain, I paid $850 for it.

I kind of lucked out. The guy parts the nbs out and I was looking for some electric fans. We started talking about me trying to find a 6.0 and he said he had one but didn't really want to sell it. I guess I was persuasive:D. Can't beat $850.

Your projects look accomplished, are you swapping out for fun or did the motor quit?

thanks.
