Long time Troller first timer poster!

I have an 06 Tahoe 4x4 w/ 6” lift kit. I bought it off of a kid 4 years ago ......with salvaged title! yeah I know , no punches because I’ve beat myself up enough over this purchase . But yet I love this Truck !‍♂️ It’s a money pit but I’m willing to drop the dough .
It has 191,000 miles on it . And I’m being told that the 5.3 which is what powers the truck is good up until 250k.
Is it worth putting in a reman and hoping someone knows what they’re getting and is willing to drop 9 to 10k for my Truck
Just put in a brand new front end ...axles , uppers and lowers control arms . Pitman arms and this list goes on , well at least 3k’s worth of work.
Would you drop 10k to put in reman or would you use that money as a down payment ?
Sorry for the lengthy post but I’m in need of ideas and options!
TIA!

Welcome to the forum from Iowa. Glad to have join up!

Not sure where you heard the 5.3’s are only good up to 250k. You’ll find many guys on here that are well past 300K on theirs. I’m not sure you’ll be able to get $9-$10K out of it even with a reman engine. Even with the work you’ve done to it, it’s still a 14 year old vehicle that has a salvage title. I know, I know, you just put $3K into the front end, but if I were the buyer, that would keep me from deducting value, not adding value.

If it were me, I’d keep it and save my money for a few years, but you didn’t say why you want to sell other than the magical 250K barrier when someone said your chariot will turn into a pumpkin.

Are there other things at play here that your not sharing? Are you for sure going to sell it or are you trying to decide if you want to sell while you still have some value, or keep it a little longer?

You got wrong info on the 5.3. If it’s maintained well, you can over 350K easily. It’s a nice looking rig, I’d hold on to it unless you got a killer offer you couldn’t refuse. Although I just got a killer offer on mine and refused it, so who am I to talk;)

The selling factor is not a what or why , it’s a WHO... My wife ! I love my Tahoe , I plan on keeping it as long as I possibly can . But , I was conversing with my other half and when she found out what a reman would cost ....she kind of lost a valve ! I’ve investigated the SALVAGE part and found out that here in California if I prove that what the damage is/was , and get it corrected, the Salvage can be removed to say Reconstructed. Able to get better insurance coverage.
It’s a money pit ....but it’s my money pit and the compliments this truck gets is quite unbelievable!

Well - That's the other thing at play then, for sure! My advice is keep your Tahoe, keep up on the maintenance and while you are driving it, start saving up money for your next vehicle. Putting a reman engine into it now, based on some urban legend that it will magically turn into a pumpkin at 250K would be foolish in my opinion. I would definitely look into what your options are for the Salvage/Reconstructed status on the title no matter what direction you plan on going.

From a buyers perspective rebuilt or salvage is the same thing, it’s ether clean and clear or it isn’t. I won’t touch a vehicle without clear title, and I’m in the majority group on that one.

Of the buyers left, the only thing left that matters is that it runs and drives well. Doesn’t matter if you’re on original equipment or 3rd jasco engine and 2nd rebuilt trans nobody cares adds absolutely nothing to the price of the vehicle.

$3k in the front end? Ouch, you might want to drive it for a little to recoup some of that cost in your mind. That’s not going to add anything to the value ether.

Someone who wants a salvage vehicle wants it as cheap as possible, get your use out of it as much as you can IE sell it when it’s overdue for an oil change and needs a laundry list of repairs to be 100% again. Until that point no need to do anything but drive it and get your money out of it.

Thanks all for the replies and Opinions!
And yes 3k on the front end . Actually, $800 went into a new Steer Box. And I live in California....add another 2 #’s before the decimal point !
