I have a 08 Denali. After driving for extend period, engine idles rough dies when we come to a stop. It does restart after a period of time. So far it has happend 4 times. First time it restarted after a few minutes. After the second it was towed and the dealer replace the throttle body (we were stranded out of town waiting for it to be fixed). After third time (it restarted after a few minutes and we got home) dealer cleaned some connections (said it was related to grounding). Forth time the car did re-start and we were able to get off of the hwy and into a parking lot. We let it cool off for about an hour while we had lunch. The next day we came back home (~200 miles) with no problems. The car is went to the dealer again to see if they could find something - but they did not find anything. But every time, when the motor dies, it has the same symptons of not restaring until it has cooled down some, it sounds like it is not getting fuel, and you hear a "gasping" sound at the end of the attempted start. The car has 62000 miles. Events 1, 2 & 3 happend in July 2011 (+90 deg F). Event 4 happen in Dec 2011 (~70 deg F).
Then yesterday on the way home from out of town the "park assist off" warning kept comming on every time we hit a bump. When I stopped at home, the park assist system appeared to be working just fine.

So is this just a normal example of GM quality or do we have an unfixable car? We love the car's capabilty for people hauling and pulling our camper, but are not sure we can trust it any more.

Does GM have any "super" techs that can trouble shoot car problems when there are no computer error codes?

Breanne,
Is there a way I can provide you the info you requested in an email vs this public forum? I tried to send GM service a privite message and the system said I was not allowed to since I had not posted enough.

Thanks for your interest in helping.

I have an '07 Denali XL and it was doing the same thing. It would die at a stoplight after driving for a long time. Sometimes it wouldn't restart for 45 minutes. It seemed to be worse in hot weather. It felt like it was vapor locked. I know it couldn't be, but that's how it acted. I cleaned the throttle body and MAF several times and even replaced the crank sensor. It wasn't throwing any codes, so the dealer had no idea. Finally it started cutting out way worse one day. It stalled at a light and restarted quickly, but cut out while driving a half mile later and I had to coast off the road. Nobody had an answer, so I replaced the fuel pump. I did it my self. The part's about $350. I didn't want to pay another $300 to the dealer, so I dropped the tank myself. Took a couple hours. Knock on wood, it hasn't died since. It's been about 10000. I think there was leak back at the pump when it was hot. I checked the fuel pressure at the rails before replacing the pump and it was reading high and would lose pressure quickly when turned off. With the new pump, it stayed up when turned off.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info cvdaddy.

Did you use an OEM fuel pump or another brand?

Maybe I can use your info to get GM to replace the fuel pump while it is still under the powertrain warrenty before we get stranded somewhere.

I used an OEM. My brother works parts at a Chevy dealer, so I paid $300. Also, I remebered over the weekend that the MPG and fuel used data started being off. I drove Denver to Chicago and back and dash said I got 20 mpg. I wish!

Entertainment system off and on

Two new gremlins showed up this weekend.

1. While driving the entertainment system would turn off, then come back on. Afterwards we would notice that system response to the touch screen or the buttons was really slow.

2. I was loaded with 5 passengers and luggage and all I heard was clicking when I tried to start (sound of a dead battery). Luckily on the third try it started and I made it home (~300 miles) with no problems. Except for the radio issue above. This non-start issue happened about year ago just after we got the car, but that time I was jumped and went strait to Autozone for a new battery.

I plan to take it back to the dealer again. Reading other posts, these last two issue maybe related to a bad negative battery cable, aternator, or body control module.

The way it is going maybe by the time the warrenty runs out everything but the body panels will have been replaced and the car will be worth keeping :).

I have an 08 Denali and have had issues with the AC. After driving for about 30 minutes or so, no air at all would blow out of the vents even though you can hear the blower fan runnin like crazy. Neither cold or hot air would blow out. I went to the local GM service shop, told them about the problem and they keep my Denali for over two weeks. When I finally called them they acted like they didn't even have my car. Two days later they called and sait it was done. I still have the same problem. My Denali has been in twice fo the same problem and its not fixed yet. GO GM Service Team!!!!!
