None of us know what we are saying. that is why we're here all telling you the same thing.
The IFS will not support torque (from any gears) for tires that big. Put 6.31 gears in it and they'll eat the 10 bolt rear pumpkin. The rear 10 bolt isn't even strong enough to run 35" tires on the street with a heavy foot (how I like to drive). These trucks used IFS and a 10 bolt on 31" street tires. That's it. Even if you do not blow up your differential, your tranny WILL explode if it's not built for the load and MOI of the big ass tires you're running. One yukon (my brother drives) has 298,000 miles on a stock drivetrain (350 TBI, NV3500, rear 10 bolt.) NOTHING has been replaced and it's still in spec. 10 bolt is fine/IFS probably needs new ball joints, etc. My "new" 97 tahoe has 37" tires, replaced all front end components and the rear 10 bolt is fixing to implode I think. Tires that big will eat through small stock stuff. You spin those tires in mud for very long (not very long at all at the size you're wanting to use) and your IFS will break. GUARANTEED. IFS and mud trucks is like white people and harlem. the SAS is not hard and will make vast improvements in the
durability of your truck. Once I do that swap, I can afford to essentially forget about my suspension for a looong time. Front Dana 60s can be had for $500 easily. Rear 14 bolt FF or SF axles can be had for half that if you look around. I'm going to look at a D60/14FF tomorrow and the guy wants 900 for both. I'll bring $700 with me in cash and I'll walk away to deal another day if he hesitates at all. Be sure you get a ford D60 or at least a D44 & that you get the driver's side drop. Most "chevy" front pumpkins are passenger side drop.
Pirate 4x4 is more of a "4x4" forum where people run KOH and competitive offroad races/comps. They're full of guys (some *********) who live and breathe the 4x4 world. They're really helpful and know their shit.
Hope this helps.
p.s. shit, just saw this is an OLD thread. My bad
