Just got off the phone with the dealership and this is what they want for a 2012 Tahoe. They need an answer within the hour to be able to get it out today so before letting them do it I'm looking for feedback. It just seems ridiculous when did they turn money to water.

Shop time for the pump is 2.1 hours and for the flush it is 1.1 hours. Pump is about $300. 50/50 Dexcool is about $20 a gallon and you need almost 5 gallons. Of course that is Amazon price and not dealer price for coolant.

What is their shop rate?

It seems a little higher than I’d expect, but not ridiculously so.

There is a reason you took it to them instead of doing it yourself or going to a different shop. If you don’t have them do it, what are your other options? Your vehicle is already there. If you decide not to have them do it, you’ll need to go get it, find another shop to take a look and give you a quote. If that’s higher than you like, then it’s off to the next place.

Last year was the first repair that I've paid for out of pocket in quite some time - decades. ECM last year and now the water pump. Car only has 44,000 miles, no country for old men.

It was $190 for the flush and right at $900 for the repair. Pump quote was over $400. Not sure what the shop rate is evidently it varies from gm dealer to gm dealer?

They agreed to match the price of another dealer which quoted $888 so they're getting the job. I've really got to find an independent jobber but our small community doesn't have much to offer. We used to have several shops run by guys I knew that worked on cars seems today nobody wants to work with their hands.

I cried a little so they knocked it down I'm starting to make peace with it.

Trying to set a repair cost limit before replacing the vehicle but look to trade within 2 years regardless.

Glad they came down a little for you.

Shops around here are having a hard time finding help because it seems like no one wants to go into the trades. All the independent shops are run by guys in their 50’s or 60’s and can’t seem to keep help. My nephew went to school for diesel mechanics and after being out of school for 4 years, at the age of 24, he was one of the senior guys in the shop because the old guys all retired.

for future reference if you want factory work performed you can go to any GM dealer, it doesn't have to be "chevrolet" you can go ANY gm dealer, hummer, gmc, cadillac, buick, etc makes no difference other than maybe the price paid, my GMC dealer here is crazy high so if needed everything goes to the Chevrolet dealer around the corner they treat me well.
And if any warranty work needs to be done you can also have that performed at any GM dealer, just keep the receipt handy.

Where are you located? Hopefully not some third world location in the middle of a wheat field!
