Hi all. I have a question regarding my Alternator. I have a 2000 Yuk XL/1500 4wd. I bought it used in Sep and it has 174,000 mi. The Alternator is making bearing noise and not charging to full capacity I noticed.

The RPO code is KG8 (130 Amp Alt), however, it has a 105 amp currently installed. Not a huge issue, except for when idling with accessories on. I bought a new 130 Amp from 1AAuto.com for a decent price. The box arrived damaged and they are sending me another new one, free of charge.

The first new one, when installed, caused the Battery Lamp to illuminate when running, made a loud whining noise when running, and got pretty hot in the five minutes I ran with it on.

I installed the old Alt and again, no issues.

Any advice? I really need a 130 Amp and I don't want to buy a new Bosch or AC Delco, but I'll do it if necessary.

Thank you.

So you installed the one that came in damaged & the battery light came on?

I'd wait until the replacement arrives & see what that one does.

X2. You already answered your own question. New alternator=noise and light, put old alternator back on=no noise and light went out.

you may want to double check but the pulley size maybe be slightly different calling for a different serpentine belt between 105 vs 130 aMP units

the 105 amp is a smaller pulley. Did you have to wrestle the belt on? Perhaps it was too tight causing the bearing noise and excessive heat.

The old alt was making the bearing noise. I installed the replacement and the light came on. Re-installed the orig. and noise was back, but no light.

I got the replacement a few days later and the box was near mutilated. Same light on issue with it. Went to Adv. Auto, friend works there, and he hooked me up with a reman Bosch 130 amp. Works perfectly, no noise and no light.

I checked pulley diameter and the new is within .010". I'll guess the old one had some wear. I also pulled it apart and the bearings had a lot o lateral play. I'm not sure why the mail order ones caused the light to illuminate, but oh well. I now have two good paper weights. Purrs like a quiet kitten now.

Thanks for the help/advice.
