Well I got a freebie g80 from my buddy. looks like we're going to throw new bearings and seals in it while we have it apart, might as well do it right. I did manage to get the axle plates glass beaded up

I won't be able to set the new diff up until after the holiday. I figured that I would remove the axles and backing plates to make everything at my buddies place go smoother, but the pinion cross shaft bolt was broken off it's a common chevy and ford issue. I have managed to get everything else glass beaded,cleaned up and in primer. The drums have a couple spots where metal was removed to balance them. I have never seen balanced drums on a light truck rear end before.

Last night I was finally able to work on the diff again. I couldn't let the broken cross pin shaft get the better of me any longer. I used a 12" 3/16 drill bit and a right angle drill to center drill the broken bolt. Then I used an easy out to back the remaining piece out.
From there I removed the c clips and slid the axles out.
Next I removed the pinion nut with a block of wood wedged in the ring gear to keep it from turning. Then I removed the main caps and popped the carrier out.
