I don't know man, from your answers it's not exactly sounding like a thermostat problem but it still could be! I'd think your scanner is getting the same reading your coolant gauge would be reading from so not sure why it would be reading that different!
When looking at your pic of the gauges, our truck runs a notch cooler than 210 so I'd say mine run (or shows on the gauge) 200 and yours is quite a bit cooler than mine and alot of other trucks on here! Did you just get this truck and its been this way or did it switch to this cooler reading recently? What was it reading prior? What year is your truck?

Sorry for all the extra questions, would rather overthink stuff than have someone do work that didn't need to be performed!

Hey Whiteout and YukonXLPerk, have you guys seen his pic of his gauges and does yours run at that temp or does it run a notch before the 210 mark like mine?
It's my first winter with the truck. It was running a hair short of the 210 mark until recently. I know it's a bit cooler where I am now but yesterday was 47* outside and I drove for 1 hour on the highway and in traffic.

We have had temps as low at 5 degree's a few times during the winter since I've had the truck and when fully warm it is ALWAYS at a notch short of 210! I'd say you are either low on coolant, haywire sensor, or a new thermostat is in order!

Yea. I'm not going to mess around. Doing Thermostat and coolant now......good maintenance either way. If I still have the issue, I'll replace the sensor.

The dash gauges should be taken with a grain of salt, they are more like dummy lights. As long as its between the red its generally ok. If your truck takes forever to warm up the tstat may be stuck open. Obviously if it overheats its stucked closed.

Problem Solved. Mechanic said the thermostat fell apart when he removed it. The replacement part was pricier than I expected bc it comes with a new housing.
On a positive note, I'm Dex-cool free now (had the fluid replaced).

Awesome my man, that crap does happen to them but now you have the piece of mind that it's a new thermostat now with fresh coolant just in time for winter! Glad it all worked out for you!

Yea, you guys are the best. Took a drive last night and it reached the mark just shy of 210. Back in business. Happy Thanksgiving.

What's wrong with dexcool? What coolant did you use ? Someone else posted about switching out DEXCOOL but I couldn't figure what's bad about it since the manufacturer specs for it.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Mine's been not warming more than 180* since the cold weather rolled round. Front heat don't work worth anything, and the back heat works great. I'm thinking my thermostat is stuck open. With 250k, its quite possible.
