1980 350 sbc block in 99 obs

So yesterday I spun a bearing in my 2 bolt main 350. Doing some searching for junkyard motors, I just felt like they were just a bit out of my price range since I was planning on rebuilding the one im pulling out. Then I had an idea. I have an old 350 4 bolt main block in my garage that I pulled out of my 1980 Camaro when I warped the oil rings. Engine was putting down 400hp before I had to pull it. In theory after I rebuild it, if I put the Vortec heads on it and get a better intake manifold, I should be able to keep my fuel injection. This route seems cheaper and way more fun. Anyways I'm looking for all the help I can get.

I could be wrong as im still not as knowledgeable as some when it comes to the chevy 350s over the years. The camshaft and crank is probably a little different over the years due to advancing timing technology. As the newer engines are picking up the timing signal from the cam and crank sensors.

Would I be able to do without those with a flash on my ECM?

No if its doesnt know where the timing is it wont have spark or fire the injectors.

This will not be "plug and play", if that's what you're after. The '80 block is missing accommodations for the sensors your truck's computer needs to control the engine. Furthermore, you'd need to run the truck's 2 piece intake and heads to keep the csfi/cpi setup, again, so the computer in the truck can run the engine. What you'd save using this old 350 would cost you in the long run, so you're really better off finding an L31 engine to replace the L31 from your rig.
