1997 5.7 vortec thermostat

does it have a housing gasket or just the o-ring type seal around the thermostat itself... i went and got a new thermostat and they guy said that was the only one it had... is that right?

The last guy argued with me and I ended up with a housing gasket. LOL

It's just the o-ring on the thermostat. I just did mine on my '99 last week.

this is kinda off topic, but when i first got my Denali. i have notice that it had no Water. NO WATER at all. but its weird. the temperature did not over heat, it stayed at normal operation temperature and it drive fine.

maybe the engine run at such a low rpm and such a big engine it dint create to much each for it to over heat?

Also if you remove the thermostat, would the engine run cooler. Cooler Engine Equal to Happy ENGINE

No thermostat = cold engine = not good at all. I run a 180 thermo during the summer months here (Arizona) and the stock 195 during the winter.

yep. cold motor is an unhappy motor..

cold air good, cold motor bad...

i'm changing mine to a 195 for the winter and maybe even leave it in, we will see..
