Ugh...that sucks. Sorry to hear that.

You want to hear a story related to PS pumps?

Shortly after I bought my K3500 I loaded it busted concrete and rock. I bought the truck as a beater for a home renovation project. So when left headed to the landfill when I got to the first red light, the brake pedal went to the floor. When I took off again, I realized I didn't have power steering assist AND brake assist! Hydro boost FTW, LoL.

Anyways, I was able to get back home safely, basically ridding on my brake pedal and using the parking brake. Didn't help I had like 3,000lbs in the bed. It helped the traffic was light and school zone speed limits were on.

But when I got home (a little shaken up), later that day I went to rent a pulley puller. The pulley literally fell out of the pump! WTF I thought!? The shaft had broken off inside the pump! Pulley was just free wheeling.

This is just one of the reasons, but is the biggest reason, why I do not make money off of parts and allow my customers to supply their own parts. I explain that to each of them. They pay less labor and pay less for parts because I will use my military discount for them.

Last November, I diagnosed a stuck thermostat on a 99 Yukon. He supplied the part. Then had a problem of it sticking open. He wanted me to do labor for free. I said no and told him on the spot that I would not change it again without being paid up front for the labor. He could supply the next new part or I would charge for my time to go get a new part "at my cost". He sniveled and moaned and name called. I told him to leave my driveway and I would not work on his vehicles any more. He apologized and wanted the work. I said no . He threatened to bad mouth me to other people. I said fine, go ahead. Have not heard any feedback from anyone, including at least one person that has talked to him about the problem and of course the story was a bit twisted. Good riddence!

I totally understand that, that is why i only work on my Friends and Family's stuff. That way I am the only one that can be blamed for workmanship issues......everything else is crappy parts
