I searched around and found some info but not exactly what im looking for...

I just bought a 1999 Yukon and i want to add a 3.5mm aux input for my iphone.

I bought the GM9-AUX thinger, but it doesnt work and im under the impression it wont work with my radio.

I have the AM/FM/Single CD radio with no changer or cassette player. Im beyond frustrated an i really dont want to use an aftermarket stereo...
Is there anything i can do?? Or should this GM9 work and somethig is just wrong??

I can imagine this is a common topic but i couldnt find anyone else saying they have the same stereo as me.

I just read over the description on the GM9-AUX. It states that it will NOT work on 95-99 AM/FM/CD units. Seems that it will only work on a 2000-2002 CD stereo. So you can send that adapter back and try and find one that WILL work, or you can buy another stereo from a 2000-20002 truck.

why under the dash. put it in place of the existing one. about $25 for adapters will fit it enclosure and plug in electrics wise. would highly suggest you pull out the security code on it and write it down. just in case you put it back in or move to another vehicle.

I dont like the look of an aftermarket stereo in the factory location, mostly because the lights are too bright at night. I have a new JVC unit i am going to use, i was saving it for my drift car im ganna tow with my yukon and im not sure it has a dimmer setting.

I wont be doing anything under that dash i cant undo, so if later i decide to move it to the factory position, i can always do it.

Eventually I plan on doing a Double Din install on my '99, but for now I Just wanted something I could plug my phone into.

I ended up buying this from eBay:

I thought it would sound like hell being that it is basically an FM modulator... But I knew it was just temporary so I wasn't too worried.
But to my surprise, it sounds perfect. I mounted the little base inside my center console and just ran a cord out and sit my phone in my cupholder.
I've installed several FM modulators in cars and never have been that impressed... This one is the best option I've seen next to that expensive USA-Spec iPod interface.

aftermarkets have a dimmer function but dont dim in the same effect as your stock unit. meaning most one dont dime in variations. it is either bright or dim no smooth light control like rest of dash assembly.

I have the stock CD radio from my 2001. It would work perfect with your adapter. Only thing wrong with it is its missing the volume knob, and that can easily be transferred over from you 99 radio. PM me an offer if you are interested .
