Interesting. I'll make contact with them. Right now I'm torn between RMA'ing this one and waiting (which I guess would require me to install one of those Dorman pullies that take the place of the compressor), or, ordering a new compressor, RMAing the old one and probably Craigslist'ing it later on when I get its replacement back.

Right now I'm in the process of putting together another bill of materials and ordering everything else I need. One other thought that comes to mind - I'm pretty sure that in addition to the existing known issues with the work I had done previously, it's possible that air was introduced during the charging phase. This would've come from the inline oil canister that the guy was using when charging the system. I don't recall him ever cracking open the yellow hose at the manifold gauge to release the air in the line. Obviously I won't be using an inline oil canister this time, so that part is a non-issue. But I'm wondering if anyone can comment on that as it pertains to charging the system - specifically:

1) It is necessary to momentarily crack open the yellow service line at the manifold gauges, using the new refrigerant to purge the air out of the line, right?
2) To what extent should I do this; is 2 seconds enough, or should I crack it open until I see refrigerant mist seeping between the threads?
3) The top-of-can tap I'm using on the service hose has a check valve built in. After I change cans, is it necessary to repeat #1 above, or is it unnecessary because of the check valve?
