Hoping someone might have the magic solve or additional insight. I just had a set of 20" Denali wheels installed on our 2011 SLT. One the way home one of the center caps went missing. Once home I realized that the lug nuts were super long and came to realize that might be part of the problem. The SLT lug nuts appear more "decorative" for the 17" wheels since those wheels don’t hide the lug nuts like the Denali’s do behind the decorative center cap. The Denali lug nuts are more functional, not as long and don’t appear to get in the way of the cap.

Question: have any of you heard of this or do you have any insight? Is there a history of these center caps going missing?

Tomorrow I plan to replace the lug nuts with the the shorter Denali version but hoping to get insight from those more experienced in the Yukon SLT/Denali world.

Please note the image of the wheels I just had installed below.

Thanks for any insight you can lend.

The Tahoe wheels come with little lug nuts to.
I'm sure you could pick up a set at discount tire for not to much.

I've never heard of oem caps falling off oem denali wheels.

If I remember correctly the denali lug nuts are the same as the escalade ones, they're actually very shallow.

I understand, I'm just considering his suspicion ... that said I've never seen the SLT lug nuts so I'm not sure if they are big enough to push the caps out. Seems to me that if the lug nuts are short enough to allow the caps to click in place then they shouldn't be able to push the caps.

Hey thanks guys! Along with the local dealership you've reinforced my theory that my lugs are too long. They were decorative b/c the 17" wheels exposed the lugs. On the 20" wheel GM uses a much shorter lug (about 1") and it's more of a "bolt" vs a "cap". The longer one is identical to the Denali at its base but has a decoritive "crown" which extends the lengtht.

The dealer solution (thank god for honest dealers) - "cut off the difference".

He's right, when you look at the longer SLT version its the same thing but the longer part up top is all fake filler. (Simply pull one off and look inside, its what I did and its true!)

With the modification of shorter lugs or cutting your current lugs, Denali wheels fit perfectly!

I will try and take a picture and post it so all can see what I am talking about. Look for that tomorrow.
