20x9 w/ 5.5" backspacing OK for 275-55-20's?

Looking at a 2/3 drop on my '03 Yukon.

I see Mcgauheys says aftermarket cast wheels likely won't work with their spindles...? What's up with that?

Any difference between them and Bell Tech Spindles for fitting this tire/wheel combo?

Thanks!

The warning on spindle fitment is saying it requires an 17" or larger wheel, that's all, you're good to go on that part. You'll get the best suspension info/suggestions/products from "NORCAL SS", name's Tony, he's a member on here and the "suspension guru"

It says factory 17" wheels may require modification and aftermarket cast 17's likely won't fit.

I was wondering if it's an inner diameter issue or a backspacing issue.

I can't seem to get anyone to respond on the whole wheel fitment question in this or another thread...

The modification requires grinding part of the ball-joint bolt, it's completely an inner diameter issue. The tire size will work with the drop. With the wheels as long as the offset is 30 it'll work, anything less and it could cause rubbing issues. If you're really set on going this route you could test fit the wheels, and use spacers if they don't fit right.

Good to know. I appreciate it!

Offset is +12 or a 5.5" backspace on a 20" x 9".

My wheel guy tells me it'll work fine, but he's not a Yukon/Tahoe guy, so I don't know. I don't have the wheels yet, but they are on order.

What can you tell me about this? If it was a jeep, I'd be good to go. I'm a total newb with this Yukon. I don't know what the BS & offset is on the factory 17's and how these will be different. Will these wheels sit out wider than the factory?

I'd like to know if there will be a rubbing issue and/or if it's fixable with fender mods, etc.

Thanks!

OEM = 17" x 7.5" with 31mm offset = 4.97" backspacing

Wheel is gonna stick out about an inch further than factory, you should be good on back spacing. I wouldn't know if its gonna rub or not, but if it does, since its close to factory size diameter tire, it would be a small amount or rubbing. Just gotta get them on and test it out.

There's some good info I can use! I appreciate that.

Been working on jeeps for the last 15 years, so a little clearancing is no biggie for me.

Just wanted to figure out where I was starting at or if anyone else is using this size wheel and tire combo and what mods might be required for clearance.

Thanks again!

BTW MH12, how do you like your CAI and exhaust mods?

Specifically, power and/or gas mileage increases or mostly just sound better?

Yeah Jeeps have nice amounts of clearance lol

I'd help you more if i had that setup, but I'm on 18s with stock height right now.

My CAI and exhaust gives it more oomf, quicker response. I never really compared MPGs before and after so I don't know if its helped that. I still need to get a tune to get the most out of it but they definitely help... and yes, sound way better :driver:
