Brake/Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) solenoid replacement
- Remove the steering column covers
- Unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid.
- Pry off each end of the solenoid from its mounting pins and remove it from the steering column
- The Brake/Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) solenoid (arrow) is located on the right side of the steering column just above the shift cable
- Installation is the reverse of removal.
To REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVERS:
- If equipped with a tilt-column, remove the tilt lever by pulling it sharply straight out from the column. It’s held in by prongs.
- Remove the screws and detach the lower half of the steering column cover (see illustration) . Note: Some 2002 models have screws retaining the column covers, others are retained only by clips. Always check for the presence of clips before pulling the covers off .
- With the tilt lever removed, remove these screws (arrows) and pull down the lower steering column cover
- Pull the upper column cover straight up and off.
- Installation is the reverse of removal.
