So I have a really simple question, I just cant find the answer anywhere else. The two auxiliary power plugs seem to still be powered when the key is removed. Is this normal? If so is there any way to disable this? I leave my radar detector plugged in 24/7 and i dont want it killing the battery.

You'd have to re-wire one of the outlets to a switched 12v lead.

If I were you, and the radar detector spent all of it's time in the vehicle, I'd just hard wire it to a circuit that's hot only when the key is switched on. That way, it looks super clean, and you still have both outlets available.

How hard would it be to just wire both as switched. Because I am always leaving things plugged in and don't want my battery to die.

Leaving items plugged in and in plane view is the perfect recipe for a car break in.

I like having the outlets on all the time. I've had many foreign cars, and the switched outlets are annoying, if you want charge your phone or something else, you have to leave your key in the ignition. My outlet in my center console of my Denali is perfect, I can charge and hide something with no keys left behind.
