Hey guys

We all know I've been struggling with bouncing oil pressure lately. The dash gage has still been 20 -25 idle and 25-30 under load. And that's about a 5-9psi drop on average from when I got the truck. Thay was after letting it idle for multiple days while I delivered packaged for 8 to 14 hours a day without turning the engine off. I have spoken to many companies about additives and oil types ect.. I have been using valvoline max life high mileage Synthetic blend in the red jugs for years on every car. Zero problems, love it. It contains seal conditioners That most oils do not and has a good amount of added zinc. After talking to the tech from valvoline he said perform a change with the same type and weight of 5w30 and do full synthetic. He said fhe full synteic takes longer to break down for. The egr stuff and water vapor. I did, and used my usualy ac delco filter. This truck used the pf61 longer filter. It was running great, psi looked to improved maybe 2 or 3 and. Not bouncing around erratic. Aftwr a few hundred Mike's, were. Ask to bouncing around, psi dropped to the lower levels again.

But them, something odd. The change oil light came on ra only when I started the truck .... flashed, stayed solid for 10 seconds and went off. I cooled fhe engine off aftwr absorb drive, checked oil and it was withing high levels, no leaks, great color, great odor, felt slight tacky, tasted like 5w30....

Started up,ighf agin same thing, thej goes off. Asked my wife I'd she noticed it since she had driven last, she said it came on wjenshe turned a corner and went off. I've never had that. But I put thr key in the ignition, went to acc, pumped thr pedal 5 times, light flashed accepting reset. Then, turned ot over same stuff. Been 2 weeks almost, happens everytime you start thr truck. Any ideas ?

It could possibly be the o-ring on the oil pickup tube has deteriorated and is leaking. Folks here will give you the procedure for checking the status of the o-ring. @Doubeleive

I believe a basic short test is to add a extra qt of oil and see if the pressure increases, just for testing purposes because you don't to leave it over filled, perhaps do it just before the next oil change is due.

If the oil psi is considered low to most of us, but decently above gm specs of 6psi for every 1k rpm... oil is fresh and full without leaka; then why the light all the sudden? Oring shouldn't cause a light to appear during startup and idle for 10nseconds and go off evey time.

My oil psi Guage when the truck is off is the the oy one that registers a last standing value... only time I've ever seen one of these trucks do that too.

I'm looking at buying those relatively clean 04 yukon xl with 239k on her. UT the idle rpm seems high. Around 800-950 and thr idle warm oil temp is 55psi. Every pocket and video the guy has sent me it looks like this. Engine sounds. A it loud too while the hood is open. I haven't gone to see it yet because it's an hpir and. Half away. Oil psi on these is crazy. Is thay idle rpm and oil psi even normal or good?
