2001 Chevy Tahoe --> Time to ditch??

Hi everyone, wanted to get some opinions on my 2001 Chevy Tahoe. Got about 190,000 miles. The electronics to the sun roof and the indoor lights burnt out-- had to fix that. Battery had to be replaced. There is also a leak in the oil pan (?), which is not detrimental, however yet another liability. NOW i'm looking at another fix for the water pump, which apparently is leaking.

Overall a fantastic car, lots of good road trips and memories in that Brahoe. Runs fine overall, given the issues listed. However with all the cost of repairs now building up, i'm considering finally selling my baby and moving on.

Thoughts?

I guess it depends on what you're looking to replace it with. If you want another similar SUV, you can pick up an 07 or 08 for around 20K, give or take a bit. The new ones are ridiculously expensive. Props to you guys who can afford that.

Sounds like you could get by with under 2k on repairs and keep rolling for a few more years. (That's the route I took with my 02 Yukon) However, you could catch the mod bug like me and start doing a ton of upgrades and ease that number closer to the 10k mark haha.

IMO, I'd keep it and fix what is wrong with it. 190,000 is nothing for these vehicles anymore if properly maintained. I've got almost 189,000 on ours and have a couple small things needing done, but plan on running it till it runs no more, then replace the motor and keep trucking. Aunt in Dallas has 210,000 on hers and drives it everyday in Dallas traffic, runs as good as the day it left the factory. Then have an Uncle in Atlanta with close to 228,000 on theirs and its falling apart due to lack of maintenance. It's all in how you take care of them!

Honestly water pump and battery to me are just routine maintenance. The sunroof and lights , well, that sucks but at least ya got it repaired. If not having more than a quart of oil lost between oil changes, tranny still good, then I'd keep it. I'd love to get a new one (we have 02 yuk) but the cost to replace it is WAAAY more than I want. I figure if I spend $3k in repairs per year, that's still less than new car payments (or even newer used car). My $0.02

I'd keep it and just fix it yourself. Will still last awhile if you take care of it.

Fix your hoe! Those issues are pretty minor considering what a new one costs. Keep on the maintenance & you should get more life out of her.

keep it! I dyno tuned my 06 4x4 Yukon with 100K miles on the all original drive train. Runs great and the trans and transfer case held up to all the WOT dyno pulls. Does not even burn oil on a 4,000 mile road trip.

You can easily complete the water pump repair yourself. Less than 2 hours with less than $250 invested in a quality aftermarket replacement pump.
The battery is going to happen to every car, regardless of mileage.
The sunroof and roof wiring sucks, but it sounds like you've already had it fixed.
The oil leak is probably the issue that could potentially cost you some significant money, but even if it turns out to be a rear main seal leak (the worst case scenario), the repair will still cost you less than 2-3 months of car payments ($1200).

If you still like the car otherwise, I vote for fixing the couple of minor issues and continue driving it.
