When you say you replaced the trans are you talking about bolting in a reman unit or did you get a used one and install or rebuild the existing one? If you get a used one I always recommend replacing any seal that is exposed before reinstall. Have to be careful when you mate the two sections up during reinstall. You need to tear down and inspect.

Your thread reminded me that when I drained my Transfer case before removing it to figure out a transmission issue almost a gallon of dark red fluid drained out should of been less than two quarts and blue. I have a internal seal that has blown out and trans fluid is filling up my Transfer case. Now I have transmission and Transfer Case issues. Good Luck.

Your rear tranny seal is leaking and pressurizing the extension housing or the Tcase input shaft seal is leaking. There should be no fluid in the extension housing.
Correct. I had tranny fluid in my T-case and the gasket was not even leaking.

What was the torque spec for those bolts on the transmission tail? I don't recall they are high torque items, especially with a paper gasket. Also, I cannot recall if that surface required gasket AND sealant, or just gasket...I'm pretty sure it didn't have sealant from the factory, like the oil pan, but afterwards some places (like the corners of the oil pan) sealant is needed since we don't have the same alignment stuff the factory does. Also you mentioned shaft seal..was it replaced? Just putting it out there as a starter...much more knowledgeable folks may chime in after the weekend
Removed my T-case a few months ago. Gasket was sealed on the Trans housing side only or just happened to be stuck on it from years of heat.
