I think this is my first post here. Been lurking for a while (own 2003 tahoe, 2001 Yukon XL, 2000 Silverado 2500)

So my question is what years and models will have the same front differential as the 2001 Yukon XL 4x4.

I ask because mine has a loud roar.
I replaced both hubs (1 wheel bearing was bad). Still have the roar at all speeds. When I removed the CV axle on the driver's side and spin the stub that sticks out of the differential I can feel and here what sounds like a roller coaster winding up a big hill if that makes any sense.

My plan for now is to brake the CV axles and drive with the stubs through the hub for a while and either have the differential rebuilt or pull one at the yard

Just doing the temp fix on the Yukon so I can send the Tahoe in to have the intake manifold and possibly nock sensors done before we drive it on a round trip to Florida from Ohio in March.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your differential bearings are shot on the drivers side. goto car-part.com and input your vehicle and the front differential and it will list vehicles in salavage yards all across the U.S. and it will list their years as well to see what all donor vehicle models and years are.

Too code in glove box is gt4
If I am right that is 3.73 ratio
I have located one locally out of a 2002 Silverado with 90,000 miles for $200

I am having a problem getting the steering center link out. I have bother tie rods disconnected and the nuts under the center link buy I can't get it out

Smack relay rod with a hammer right next to where the idler and pitman arm studs go into it. Hit it hard and like you mean it. Use a mini sledge if you have to. Steering gearbox has to be loosened from frame to clear the pitman arm for a puller to engage it if you are going that far.

Thanks. I was able to get a separator in there. Differential came right out after that. The one I was looking at doesn't fit. the top mount wasn't there so tomorrow if it doesn't pour down rain I am going to try pull a part. Not looking forward to taking it out without a jack but it is what it is

Update. I swapped the differential out with one from a salvage lot and I still have the same roar. Since I have done both front hubs and the dif I am not sure what to look at next. Brakes, rear end, tires? It roars at about any speed over 15 or 20 mph. Doesn't do it much when excelerating.

This is a video with the noise

I may have to take it somewhere and have them run it on a lift. I had a certified mechanic drive it and he was leaning towards front hubs
