After installing, I’ve had issues with speakers cutting out. The sub still pushes bass notes but nothing from the speakers. If I keep the volume down it works fine. I am wondering if it’s an issue with the factory amp that the speakers are wired through. The way it acts is almost like if I try to pull to much power it shuts down the factory amp and that’s why the speakers cut off. In order to get them to work I need to put the vehicle in park, completely turn it off and open the door (so the head unit turns completely off) and let it sit for 10 seconds or so. When I turn it back on the speakers work again. I’m also running stock alternator.

How is the sub amp input connected to the HU output?

So the sub and amp aren’t really secured yet but they stay in place fairly well.

could be a variety of things or combo of things including
poor ground
not enough power
incorrect wiring
incorrect impendance
short to ground
double check your work
ensure the power wire and grounds are sufficient

cutting off and on typically is incorrect impedance, ground or power issue

I did not realize that a 2001 could have an OE 5.7L.

I don’t know much about these trucks, but I don’t believe it was swapped. I bought it from the original owner with 189k on it and honestly it runs great

Probably because it's a Gen3 5.3 with 189K and not a Gen2 ("Vortec") 5.7 with 189K.
