The pump was making noise in the tank but not actually pumping fuel.

I few swift whacks with a pipe bender and voila

I whacked it and then turned the key and listened for prime and then I could actually hear the fuel rushing down the line.

Keep a close eye on it...pump may be starting to kick the bucket...

yes replace it these factory gm pumps are destined to fail around the 100k to 150k range
really the only way to extend the life of yer fuel pump is to like never let your fuel tank fall below 1/2 tank roughly since its submerged

Walbro pumps are nice...factory is fine but it's highly recommended not to go below 1/3 tank. Fuel is a coolant & lubricant for the pump. If you run your tank low...exposing the pump...it gets hot...you fill up dumping cool/cold fuel on a hot pump...stuff starts wearing out. It's the deatb of fuel pumps. Fords, Dodges, & GM's have this issue.
