Hey magicbus,

I tried PMing you but I haven't met the required post count yet.

I installed my HU this weekend, went in easy and it looks great. I used the Metra harness along with the GMRC-01 box for RAP and door chimes. I also ordered the 4 speakers for the front/rear doors. I had planned on just swapping them in and keeping the same speaker wire, however i'm thinking about picking up a 4 channel amp and running new wire and rcas. If I were to go this route, I assume the other speakers in the car will work as is because of the stock amp and metra harness? Are these worth replacing? My truck is a SLE with all the basic options.. so no bose. I think eventually i'll end up installing a second amp with a sub.

Thanks for your help!

If it isn't bose then there is no factory amp. I always condone replacing factory paper cone speakers with something else. As for keeping the factory wiring is mostly personal preference. I personally have my 4-channel running all of my mids/highs using the factory wiring and it sounds no different than the vehicles/boats that I've ran new wire from the 4 channel to the speakers individually. All I did on mine was wire my new wires to the harness I used to install my radio (the white and white/black, gray and gray/black, purple and purple/black and green and green/black wires connect to the factory speaker wires through the harness). This way I could run my new wires with my rca cables and made the install a cinch. This method only works on vehicles with no factory amp or where the factory amp is bypassed. my email is [email protected] if you need quicker responses.

there are 3 levels of audio that came in tahoes. there was a 6speaker non amped. a 9 speaker amped and the bose system. if you have the 9 speaker amped you will have the sub and the amp is located above the glove box.

There is a lot of confusion with this thread. I believe Souper kinda "threadjacked" and owns a 2003. In 2003 the amplified systems were Bose, the amp was either under the console or in the back where the sub was found in 00-02 models. In my 10 years as an installer I never witnessed a 2003-2006 tahoe/yukon/XL/suburban with any amplified system other than the bose system. In 2003-2006 the XM tuner was in place of the 00-02 amplifiers.
I apologize for all of this confusion since it was partially my fault, I should have used PM to explain how souper should equip his 2003. However, since this forum has a ridiculous 10 post minimum before you can PM, this is how we handled. Then again, maybe a little bit of reading would eliminate the confusion.

Yea I did threadjack.. my bad. He was asking the same questions as I was, and I figured it would be better to keep it in one thread rather than starting another. I didn't realize the 2002 and 2003 models were so different.

Anyway, I know there is a speaker in the cargo area near the jack (I think)... where is the sixth? Is there two back there?

I personally do not feel the need for apology here, a little bit of reading and comprehension should keep the two separate. 2003 was the first year GM used the databus system in the fullsize trucks and SUVs so the electrical systems and how they operate are the biggest difference.
The sub is located near the jack in 00-02 models. 03-06 should just have a blank cover that looks like a speaker grill, sub was under the console.

I have most of my equipment ready and will hopefully find time tomorrow to start the install. I purchased the dual 10" sub enclosure from ebay that goes below the 2nd row seats... so now i'm trying to figure out the best location for the amp. :headbang:

If your amp is small enough you could possibly place it in 00-02 sub location. Mine are under the second row buckets and a ported box in the cargo area. Ive also installed small enough amps under the console in 03-06 trucks where the bose sub would be located, it takes some modification but it is possible as long as your amps are small enough.

So this will probably be a dumb question but how do I connect the power wire to the battery? The rubber housing around the positive terminal doesn't give a space for mounting... and the damn bolt is too large for the O connector that came attached to my 4 gauge power wire.

I suppose I can go buy another connecter but I don't think it will be long enough to fit between the battery and the rubber housing.
