Hey guys, I just got an 02 XL with 130,000 miles, that ran great and made no noises when I drove it... A couple miles down the road, and I have a low coolant light, and super loud belt squeak, I think from leaked coolant. I can't tell completely, but it seems as though the leak is coming from the area of the water pump, but I haven't taken anything off to tell for sure, but it looks like there's some sporadic fluid spray in that area, and I'm guessing some has gotten onto the serpentine belt.. When looking around that area, I noticed that the bolt holding the fan in place had a couple good size gashes in it, like it had half-hazardly been removed before(As is necessary to get to the water pump).

What are your guy's thoughts? Where should I go from here? Should I contact the PO and ask if the water pump's been replaced? Should I just to get a water pump and replace it and go from there? Or should I take things apart a little more to take a closer look?

Ask PO, what was done, then move on.
Replace it asap, no need to risk a seized up engine over a cheap water pump.
Do u have any knlolge on how to shange my 03 tahoes spark plugs

Yeah that's what I'm going to do. I'm about to order some parts online since I have an Advanced Auto Coupon, and I'm wondering how I find out which sized serpentine belt I should get, since as I understand, there are two different sizes depending on which alternator I have.

And how should I go about getting a fan clutch wrench? Try renting one?

Thanks for all your help!

You can buy a fan clutch wrench, or a big open end wrench or try the chisel method (search youtube, I found it on a duramax repair video). Coolant is slick as hell and makes the belts sqeek bad. Thats a good thing because it gives you a warning. Its likely leaking from the weep hole which is an indicator of an internal seal failure. Bearing failure will soon follow. The weep hole is hidden and the coolant will get slung around so it will be difficult to find the source of the leak but the sign I've always seen consistent is a puddle direct center under the engine when the leak gets bad enough.

Be sure to replace the belt with the pump and thermostat. Once the belt gets that coolant on it I would never reuse.

Yes, coolant on the belt does seem to get them sqeeking and acting up quite prematurely.
